A:It was made of brand new cells All the replacement batteries I got for that laptop from china or ebay start to drop their capacity after few discharge cycles, same thing here with "74Wh" Dell battery. These are made of recycled garbage, so they cannot last. Best thing once they fail would be to smash them and throw into canyon, to prevent recycle "companies" from getting the junk back into market.
You all must not be taking care of it properly. My Alienware 15 R1 from 2014 has the battery design capacity at 96,000MvH but the Full Charge Capacity is 94,000MvH now. That tells you Dell Makes good batteries and that you all gotta take care of them. The Charge cycles on this laptop are literally 3 cycles and the health is 97%.
Can you charge the battery in any way? Because if you cant charge it using the DC in jack which is the most common way to do it, it might be only that as the problem. What's your battery health at?
I am sorry about the issues. I recommend you just ask Dell for a replacement but make sure to disable express charging and leave it to auto. Make sure the temperatures aren’t too high so after maybe 2 weeks or so if it swells again then Dell HAS to replace the laptop completely because it’s on their end.
I Bought a Dell XPS 9710 recently it's battery size is 97wh but the laptop is showing that the designed capacity is only 95wh above that there is battery ware of 5% as you said the battery ware is fine but when the system is sold at 97wh can the designed capacity be 95wh or is it defective ?

Mine is having a similar issue. However mine was nearly 12000 mWh low out of the box, does anyone know what would explain this?

I should have read this post before buying the DELL Laptop.
I have similar issue and battery is dead ! its showing me an error message to replace the battery and Battery is not covered in warranty
I brought Laptop in 2019 -august, its not even two years and i had to replace it, regret buying the dell !
