Is the adapter a genuine Dell adapter? Usually that error is due to a non-Dell adapter, a battery problem, or a defective DC jack on the laptop. Check the DC jack to make sure the centre pin is not loose or broken. You can try a reset by disconnecting the battery and adapter, then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Also try running diagnostics (F12 immediately at boot) and watch for any battery or adapter errors.
