Battery issues

I have an inspiron 3542 laptop. The battery (xcmrd 14.8v) went bad a few days ago. I replaced it with a 91t8w battery(14.6v). I charged the battery to 100% and started using it. But the battery icon started changing between on battery and plugged in continuously causing flickering in laptop. This happens when it is not plugged in. I removed the battery and tried using the laptop by plugging in the adapter. It works fine then. The battery is working fine on a 3521 laptop. What might be the issue? Is it because I didn't use a xcmrd battery? Thanks in advance.
