8 beeps:  display not recognized.

3 beeps:  bad mainboard.

Two different things -- which is your error code?

Run the screen self-test - hold D through powerup. You should see a series of test screens (this runs independently of the mainboard).  If you do not, the screen is bad and will need to be replaced.

If you do see the test screens, check the cable that runs between the screen and mainboard for damage.  If it's not a touchscreen, and the cable is damaged, replace it;  if it is a touchscreen, the screen assembly will need to be replaced, as the cable doesn't separate from the assembly.

If the cable checks out OK, that leaves the GPU as the faulty part - meaning the mainboard needs replacement.

Run a screen self-test - hold D through powerup.  If you can get the self-test to run successfully but still get the eight beeps, the screen is OK;  the mainboard or the connecting cable is not.

If you get no response at all on the screen to the self-test, the screen is faulty.
