Black screen during Intel Graphics enabling
Hi
My Dell Inspiron 5459 was giving flickering issues. I have got the display cable changed and since then facing very peculiar issue.
When the Intel Graphics 520 is enabled, the display in BIOS (Dell splash logo) remains in laptop screen, but immediately once system enters WIN 10, laptop screen blacks out but lights, fan are working. I happened to connect an HDMI cable to external monitor, only to realise the display moves to the external monitor, while the laptop screen is still blank....
Also, some other observations:
- No option to adjust brightness slider in windows
- No option to extend/ duplicate screen
This makes be believe it is a software issue, not hardware.
The only fix I seem to find is in 2 situations:
SAFE MODE BOOT
DISABLE INTERL GRAPHCS 520 IN DEVICE MANAGER
Ive tried updating both the drivers for Intel and AMD, resetted Windows but nothing works. Below is the system info.
Many thanks

@Anujsingapore
Root cause is intel driver as main display is powered by onboard intel graphics
Download DDU ( Display Driver Uninstaller )
Reboot to safe mode
Run DDU and wipe out both drivers.
Let the machine boot to OS, this should fix it
In order to get Brightness controls back you will have to install dell recommended driver

I had a similar issue with my Dell XPS 15 9560 after updating to Windows 10 May 2020 update (v2004)
To resolve had to install a legacy Intel HD Graphics 630 driver obtained from Windows Update Catalog website.
However, you may need to use VNC or some other remote desktop application to access your computer since the screen is blank and disable the Intel HD Graphics 630 driver from the device manager. This should cause the system to fail back onto using the NVIDIA GPU instead which should temporarily fix the blank screen.
Download legacy Intel Display Driver

I am suspecting that windows update is overwriting the driver to version 27 or version 30.
Pause windows update
https://dl.dell.com/FOLDER06256095M/1/Intel-UHD-Graphics-Driver_KJPJR_WIN_26.20.100.8142_A17.EXE
Once you have installed the driver.
Run windows show/hide troubleshooter from below link
Hide the Intel Graphic driver update from downloading again

The issue has arisen again as follows:
1. As soon as I used DDU to uninstall BOTH the AMD and Intel cards in safe mode, I re booted in normal mode
2. the defualt card in device manager was now showing ONLY AS MICROSOFT BASIC DISPLAY ADAPTOR
3. I downloaded the INTEL driver from the link you gave. After installation, it worked and I got the brightness options back! Hurray
4. But, now that Intel was working, I starting downloading the driver for the AMD R335. The moment both the driver showed up in Device Manager, the same issue came up again!!!!! Display going black and moving to external monitor, brightness options also disappearing!!!
5. I again tried to disable intel and the issue is back to square one.
It seems either Intel graphics works in isolation after a clean DDU uninstall or reinstall... and if AMD is introduced on top of Intel, there seems to be a conflict.
Please help, we reached some progress, thanks for that. Doesnt look to me to be a hardware issue....

Thanks, checked all and the report now shows as fixed. Windows update is still paused.
Device manager is still with disabled intel graphics. should I proceed to enable it now?

Microsoft is really messed up !!!!
Check all of them ,
Dell is manufacturer and it would provide Drivers for your machine.
Run SupportAssist afterwards and check for Driver updates,
SupportAssist would only recommend drivers which are tested by Dell for your hardware.

Tried both ways, but failed
1. After support assist tried to install the version 26, the installation took a while but in between the screen blacked out.. Everything else was working.. Connected to external hdmi and could see everything on external screen, just black laptop screen with the switching plug and play sound like when a usb is inserted...
2. Uninstalled the Intel driver completely from device manager, then re started.. Now device manager was showing Microsoft basic display adaptor and the laptop screen was back. As advised, tried to install the driver link you shared, IMMEDIATELY at the start of installation again black screen and the screen moved to the external display..
Please help

Since Device manager has disabled INTEL HD GRAPHIC Supportassist will not download any updates for it.
Right Click on Intel HD graphic in device manager and choose uninstall (Check Remove device driver )
you can install the driver I had shared earlier
