Cannot install newest bios update (1.9.2)

Hi,

I'm having the following dell: g3 3590 and because I have some weird crackling sounds when system sound is played over something like youtube, I wanted to update bios to the newest version. Unfortunatelly when I try to upgrade it from 1.8.0 to 1.9.2 I have the following error:

Any help will be appreciated.

Crackling sound is not a BIOS problem.

There are many potential causes and each PC has to be examined for its own cause.  However, one often cause is Wi-Fi.

Download and run the free (and popular) Resplendence Latency Mon.  It will help to try and find the problem.

I wanted to have the newest drivers as I thought that it might help with my problem.

I'm using interface Scarlett Solo 2nd gen from Focusrite with my G3 3590 Dell laptop. Unfortunately, it stops working after some random time and the whole audio driver needs to be restarted to continue working.

I've done some test with this latency monitor and they seem really bad. Can you help me to investigate the problem?

If any more sceenshots would be helpful let me know.

I'm using an MOTU 4Pre in my studio.

I have a desktop and a Dell Inspiron 15 laptop that I use for recordings.

Your screenshots won't show up probably until tomorrow as the Dell forum moderator has to review them first.

I had dropouts with my Inspiron 15 laptop(it is a gaming laptop) and no matter what I did, I still had them.  The laptop came with an M.2 SSD and space to add either a laptop hard drive or full size SSD.  I had a spare SSD so I installed that and made a dual boot system with Win 10, the regular Dell factory image and the second system for recording with only Windows 10, needed device drivers and my recording program (Cakewalk/Sonar) and the driver for the MOTU.  That setup runs clean and no dropouts.  I have run Latency Mon for over 2 hours and still OK.

A couple of things to try with the existing setup. (1) disable the internet (Wi-Fi?) and (2) if your system has an NVIDIA video disable that and only use the CPU video.  Run Latency Mon again and see what it shows.

The Scarlett Solo, if I remember correctly, gets its power from the USB.  That can be an issue.  A self powered USB hub (one that has its own power supply) sometimes helps with the bus powered devices.  If the Solo has an option to use an external power supply that is another option.  I tried a Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 2nd gen (which has its own power supply) but didn't like it and ultimately settled on the MOTU which has lower recording latency.

Your screenshots showed up overnight.

Disable the internet (wi-fi I assume) as I suggested and run Latency Mon again.

Thank you for helping me. I've disabled all network devices (wifi and cable) and results seem the same:

Do you know what else could cause this?

I'll run some latency mon tests on the XPS 15 9000 series that I'm field testing and try to compare.

I'll post back later.

I'm seeing ACPI.sys causing Latency Mon to report problems, same as yours.

ACPI.sys can be many things and I can't pin down what the cause is.  I tried disabling many things and even changing the power plan from the available Dell default to Basic and that did not make any difference.

On my own Dell Inspiron 15 5577 gaming laptop I had to install a second Win 10 (dual boot) on a separate SSD drive with only Win 10, needed drivers and recording software and recording interface drivers before I could get a clean system with no dropouts and clean Latency Mon.  Like this test XPS desktop, no matter what I did to the Dell installation I couldn't completely clean it up.

If your G3 has space to install a second SSD, I would recommend doing what I did, for a clean recording system.

The crackling sound may as well be poor reception of the audio and the video signals over the wireless interface.

So try testing the offline audio on your system and check whether you listen the crackling sound or not.

That's not a problem with internet connection. The biggest problem I have with guitar interface where the sound suddenly stops and I need to restart the thing to work again.

"The biggest problem I have with guitar interface where the sound suddenly stops and I need to restart the thing to work again."

I see, apparently, two problems.  The one I have previously discussed reference Latency Mon.

The second potential problem, and this is noted by Focusrite, that "some" laptops may not provide the power required to run the Solo device.  With this potential problem, I would suggest getting a self powered USB hub and trying that.  The self powered should provide enough power.

An example of a powered USB hub (This is a USB 3.0 hub but it will work on USB 2.0 Ports):

As I noted, I get about the same thing on the new field test XPS 9500 that I have with Latency Mon.  Never got Latency Mon to run clean after tying many things. I can play a music file that is already on the PC and no problems.  I didn't try a YouTube or some other site that has music and I should have.

A clean Win 10 install would probably do it but that is an extreme last choice.

Having two apps that are using music at the same time can cause many problems.  e.g. if you are playing a music file on the PC and then access YouTube or some other site that has music, its going to cause conflicts. Only have one music stream at a time.  Also look at what you have in startup, some apps that are there may not actually be needed in startup.

Thanks for the suggestion to use powerd usb hub. I'll try that.

Do you have any more ideas about the carcking sound while playing music? I've noticed that it also happens when I play music from spotify. There are some random cracks sometimes, but problem occurs more often when I e.g. run move on yt while playing music. Or some notification is displayed by the system.
