'Checking media fail' message sometimes when I start my Inspiron 3585 laptop
Hi, I have a problem with my Inspiron 3585 laptop. It shows 'checking media' message on startup only when it is turned off for about hour or longer. Then, after the message shows up, it starts to do some tests. After the tests are done, or if I turn it off and on again, it boots to Windows normally. Also, it has no problems with booting when I'm using the restart option on Windows or turning it on in a short time after shut down. Any ideas what it happens only when it is turned off for a longer time? Best Regards

Thank you for your message. Has there been any recent hardware change or OS reinstall?
Please run a hardware diagnostic by following the video on this link & check if there is an error.
If the system is under warranty please click on the message tab next to your avatar– click “New Message” & search for my Dell username (Dell-Sreejith R) & send a private message with the service tag, registered name & email address.

Hi,
Thank you for all your response guys!
Okay, firstly, I don't know the SSD model number as I don't have access to the laptop at the weekend, I'll let you know on Monday. Same with Dell diagnostics, I will do it on Monday. The system has been reinstalled as the SSD had been erased due to previous customer data protection (all drivers updated using Dell update software, all Windows updates installed as well). Unfortunately, the laptop is probably no longer covered by the warranty because as far as I know it has been disassembled for the cooler cleaning. I can try to put any other SSD in M.2 port and reinstall Windows 10, maybe that's the SSD issue or incompatibility. However, I'm afraid that it is because of OS reinstallation, maybe the system 'needs' something or must be installed some specific way.
Thanks again.
Regards

@JoeDix
If it is the original drive there are firmware updates that cover errors like that!!!
Toshiba Solid-state Drive Firmware Update for KXG60ZNV256G / KXG60ZNV512G / KXG60ZNV1T02
Fixes:
- Fixed the issue where an error message occurs when the drive is not detected.
That's why I ask for he model number???

There are others I just did not go through them all???

Hi,
My SSD drive is Toshiba KBG30ZMS256G NVMe. I will try to update the firmware and run the Dell diagnostics as well.
Best Regards

Hi,
I've updated the SSD firmware and run Dell diagnostics (Full). It showed no errors but the issue still happens. Any ideas about what else can be wrong with my laptop? Thank you for your help.

Hi,
I don't have the previous owner details, will try to recover them from the seller. It is ridiculous that a new laptop has problems like that. I've tried the two different NVMe drives - none of them has been detected by the laptop... Now, I'm creating Windows recovery media using the service tag. Previously, I've installed Windows using Media Creation Tool from Microsoft. We'll see if that helps, maybe the system needs something extra or changed, IDK.

Hi! i have the same problem on my dell inspiron 5575.
I recently installed a Crucial ssd. After some time off it shows the message "Checking media" Then, after the message appears, it starts to do some tests. After the tests, or if I turn it off and on again, it boots to Windows normally. It happens only after a long time when the computer is turned off.
Please could you help me with the solution?
Best Regards
