DPC latency ACPI.SYS Testing, some questions for dell employees.

Hello

Before starting I want to say that I am not native English speaker therefore sorry for my mistakes.

For the past year or so I've been trying to solve issue with DPC latency on my Inspiron 7391.

Can somebody from DELL answer me these questions:

Why after so long its still an issue with ACPI.SYS?

Are you getting paid by APPLE for not fixing it?

Why you release bios versions with useless security patches instead of fixing ACPI.sys latency?

Why you fixed this issue only for one version of XPS leaving Inspiron or latitude aside?

Why this issue this issue still persists for over a decade?

Why there are no markings "NOT SUITABLE FOR MUSIC PRODUCTION"

How many people working on this issue?

On this journey I did:

  1. Tried all  the versions of bios!
  2. Read all the forums from 2011.
  3. Disabled all services to the point where windows did not even boot.
  4. Spend hours of monitoring with different kind of programs .
  5. Installed drivers from Oldest to newest (yes ALL of the drivers for each chip)
  6. Reinstalled windows 4 times.
  7. Read twitter posts of current and ex DELL employees.

Some testing results:

Fresh windows install without updates etc.

Bios version :1.8

After Bios update 1.9 and windows updates:

After Bios and windows update with ISS, c-state, turbo boost, hyperthreading OFF

I spend hundred of hours trying to solve this issue(probably more time then the person responsible for this) please spend couple of minutes answering!

And my service tag is:

Same here with G5 5590

Same Issue here DELL INSPIRON 7590. DELL fails to acknowledge the issue and tries blaming user software. Had the fault from day one even before Serato and Ableton software added. Unusable.

I have an Inspiron 15 Gaming 5577 that I bought to use in my recording studio.  No matter what I did I was never able to completely "tame" it for recording studio use.  The "best" I could do is an audio dropout about every 8 minutes.  The 5577 came with an M.2 SSD and space to add a laptop hard drive or full size SSD.  I had a spare SSD so I installed that and made a dual boot system.  (1) is the original Dell disc image, that I use for regular PC apps. (2) is a second Win 10 install with only Win 10, needed drivers and my recording studio software.   I can run all day and never get any audio problems on the "recording" installation.

Same issue with Dell G7 17 7700. I can reduce it a bit by giving the audio player more priority and energie settings. ACPI.sys goes up to 2 ms by default. When I run it longer time, it's much more. ASIO doesn't work overall, WASAPI has error on high res audio.

Hi Firebird, So if I was to completely with the Laptop and find a Windows 10 build with just the basic drivers, I could Run the machine without the ACPI.SYS Driver?

If I disable the driver then the Audio issues almost disappear although, LatencyMon still states that my System isn't capable of handling real-time audio.

I'm really stuck as the Warranty is almost up and I have an unusable Laptop that cost me alot of money

ACPI, from what I find is a basic and needed Windows app.  Its not something Dell installed, all Windows PC's  (all brands) have this needed app.  Some other device is causing the ACPI actions.

For testing, temporarily disable Internet (Wi-Fi or wired connection) and see if it makes a difference.

Hi, I tried this back when I first purchased the Laptop and have exhausted all online advised attempts to solve the Latency Issues but, to no avail

If you are stuck with this PC and no option to return, consider a clean install on a new M.2 2280 NVMe SSD.

I would do a clean Windows 10 install on a new SSD.  Remove the original in case you ever need to go back.  Install Win 10, let Win 10 install needed drivers.  Install your music production software and nothing else.  That's what I did on my 5577 - it has Win 10, drivers that Windows installed, Cakewalk (Sonar) by Bandlab recording DAW and the drivers for my MOTU 4pre recording interface unit.  Nothing else.   This is a drastic step but if you are faced with making it work, this is the way to go.

Here is the procedure to download Win 10 and create a Bootable flash drive to install Win 10

DELL state that it isn't a hardware issue so it's not their problem.

I have a new 1TB Samsung Evo NVMe M.2 here which I was going to install as extra storage so I can use this.

Thank you

If you can install a second SSD, you can make it a dual boot system.  Keep the Dell and add the second SSD and do the clean/minimum install on the second SSD.  Then if you want regular PC apps, internet browsing, etc you boot to the Dell SSD, when you want the audio production apps you boot to the second SSD.   That is really what I did with my 5577, I kept the Dell M.2 2280 SSD and there was space for a laptop hard drive or full size SSD.  I had a spare full size SSD so I installed that and did the clean recording installation to that SSD, and made it a dual boot system.
