Dell G15 5510 is getting too hot

I just got al G15 with the RTX 3060 and i7-10870H a couple of days ago, and I've noticed temperatures obove 90°C on the CPU after a few minutes of gaming, varying between 90-100 Celcius whil the fans run at max speed. The performance is great, but I'm not sure if this extra heat can become harmful on the long term. This is my first gaming laptop so I'm not really familiar with CPU temps.

I tried disabling Turbo Boost on the BIOS and temperature stays arround 70°C this way, but the clock speed is significantly reduced almost by half. For example, gaming performance on Warzone drops down arround 15 FPS without Turbo Boost, so I'm not sure if I should turn it back on or stay like this.

I also tried undervolting but I didn't noticed any mayor improvement in performance or any heat reduction.

Wow, that's hot, my 5510 is coming and I already sort of regret not looking into GPU details. The branded RTX 3060 6GB has its variants of Wattage and base clock, can you please tell me what base clock your video card is running?

Hi rsegecin,

I've been loving my 5510 so far, I solved the overheating issue by undervolting and underclocking the CPU using ThrottleStop which now reaches 92 degrees max without great changes in performance.

The GPU for this model is the 80W variant but gets up to 90W. The only models I believe which have the 120W 3060 are the Ryzen and the 11th Intel variants, but it's up to you if it's worth the extra money.

Did you run a stress test using the Dell Support Assist application or a 3rd party software?

Please update BIOS (even if you have the latest version).

Install the Dell Power Manager (DPM) application from this link or Microsoft store.  The new Dell Power Manager features allow you to access the Thermal Management option to adjust thermal settings based on your requirements

Please run a CPU & GPU stress test using Dell Support Assist & check if there is any thermal error detected.

I also have a G15 5515 which also runs hot. It's completely normal. However, if you want more control, you can download a program called Ryzen Controller. Ryzen Controller

Use at your own risk, Read the information before you use it, also look up YouTube videos if your unsure.

I did run a stress test and there were no thermal errors, but I think hitting 95-100 is a bit too much, so undercloking worked better for me than just disabling turbo boost. On DPM I use the Optimized profile.

I don't think this will work on an Intel CPU, but it looks more user friendly than ThrottleStop

I followed this video to unlock undervolting:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVAJVyF06Ro

Then used ThrottleStop, you can find many videos on how to use it safely and try it yourself untill you get confortable with the results.

Aha, fair enough. Throttlestop will be your best stop then, works the same why Ryzen Controller works.

Don't forget about the Game Boost key. On my G15 5515, it's (fn key) + F9. IT send the fans to full power, gets it cool pretty quick.

It seems like WZ is the problem, I don't get issues with FPS with other games, but in Warzone if I use the highest or the lowest settings I also get arround 70 FPS no mater what.
