Dell Inspiron 5567 trackpad problem

Hello everyone. My trackpad has been malfunctioning since the last few days. The problem is that when I click on it(not tap, but click), the click does not immediately register. I have to hold on it for a few seconds before it registers which is troublesome especially when I have to drag and drop files. Everything else including tapping on it works fine. I have tried updating the "HID-Compliant Mouse" and "PS/2 Compatible Mouse" drivers from device manager but that did not fix my problem.  Any help would be appreciated.
