Did you ever get a fix for this as I have the exact same issue. Inspiron 5759 does not recognize the on-board display no matter what version of the Intel 520 driver I use, old or new. Will work when using the MS basic driver but then I obviously lose the ability to run an extended screen.
Sadly I did not. I had to disable to driver in device manager. If you uninstall automatic updates will detect it is not there and reinstall it and black screen again. Work on laptops and have seen nothing but issues out of these model dells, believe I had 3 of this exact same model in the shop at one time. Seems to me that this is a “lemon” series of laptops and I wouldn’t recommend these to anyone. If you find a solution let me know because I never could.
I have the same issue. I bought 2 of these laptops. Mine has the black screen but the other one is ok no matter what driver is installed for it, the original or the updated ones. I assume this adapter cannot be replaced or I would do that. No solution after trying all of the fixes I could find.
I have been an IT Tech for 24 years, and I have this problem with a unit in my shop. Dell should replace these boards because I feel this is a hardware issue on the motherboard. It's now 2023 and no fix. Be better Dell.

You must use Dell drivers for laptops. They are customized for your motherboard. Do NOT use Intel drivers. They will not work correctly. There is a new 2019 driver available at https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product-support/product/inspiron-17-5759-laptop/drivers

The only drivers I have used are Dell, but the problem persists.
