It really up to you. I have a Dell mouse for my Dell 3048 all in one computer, whenever I turn off computer, I turn off my mouse to save power on the two AA Duracell batteries installed in it.

Is the power button designed for such frequent use?

Looking at the Dell WM126 manual, I see the mouse use only one AA battery.

Yes, my apology. I was referring to the lifecycle of the two batteries (save power) that are installed in my computer mouse. I corrected my post above. When the battery run low in your mouse, it will let you know and you can purchase a new battery to be installed. Again, it's really up to you.
