AWCC is problematic
So this is a general observation/issue I have noticed with the AWCC (Alienware Command Center) application. It is a terrible piece of software. It is slow to load, resource intensive and unreliable.
I purchased a 1st Generation Inspiron Gaming Laptop just before the line was rebranded as G Series.
The keyboard backlight came on immediately when the machine was powered on. All utilities loaded within 30 seconds of Windows loading. This was a non-AWCC equipped model.
With my newer G series machine, after I press power, I can be on the sign in screen in a dark room and my keyboard backlight has yet to come on? I cannot see my keys to sign into my account. This can last over 5 minutes.
After I sign into windows, the ACC usually still hasn't loaded after 30 seconds, and if i go to forcibly load it. It fails to load, it freezes and other bad things it not a great experience.
For me, I bought into the Inspiron gaming because I wanted a gaming class machine without the bling, RGB etc, but it seems that RGB is the marketing push of the moment.
I just wish that Dell could provide something more reliable than AWCC or consider a simpler program for managing system lighting and cooling on the G series machines.
If nothing else, could Dell at least default the keyboard backlight to ON until Windows loads and AWCC has a chance to load/crash/reload?
For those thinking I am asking for technical help, I have run Dell update, updated everything, reinstalled the OS from scratch, reinstalled Dell update, reinstalled drivers, reinstalled AWCC (multiple times) and the problem persists.
I know inertia at Dell is a thing, and using AWCC on non-Alienware models is clearly a cost cutting measure, but just give me my backlit keyboard!
I miss the reliability of Dell Quickset.
Regards,
Your friendly ramen.
