Dell laptops are junk!

Bought a 2 in 1 laptop for my daughter around July 2021 and within a week she started having issues with it before even her first college class started. She's now in her second semester and she's cheerfully carrying an HP laptop.

Throughout her first semester she was plagued by issues with her Dell. They had the both of us deleting, installing, and reinstalling things for the first couple months, then they had us ship it to them for service. When I got it back it had a HUGE dent on the top of the laptop. But problems remained.

Next they sent someone out to replace a part. It worked for a couple weeks then failed again. Luckily her school offered service and they were able to keep it running for the last few weeks of her first semester.

But now it crashed again and this time Dell sent someone to replace the motherboard. That was yesterday and today it's acting up again. I've been in IT for over 30 years and I've never seen something so poorly made. Unfortunately Dell won't take it back even though I requested it within the first month. The problem was trying to communicate with their Help Desk in India. They would never acknowledge my request, just kept reinstalling files time and time again.

So it's not worth your time to go down a Dell road. The product is junk, their support is junk, and their customer relations are junk. It's ALL junk!

And just for the record I've owned two (2) XPS's over the past 15 years, taking the first out of service only a few years ago after many faithful years at work, so I bought Dell out of consumer loyalty. Not anymore though. I'd never buy Dell again.

So Moderator, are you you trying to beat smart a** with your latest reply, "Great job! You marked your answer to a question as an accepted solution!".?

If that's why I can't reply, then change that status so I can reply!! I've been trying all day to get you the info you requested, but all I've gotten from you is that snarky reply.

Please try working with me on this or I'll need to further escalate this continual issue.

Bought a Dell for the first time 13 months ago.  Paid 3X more than any other laptop ever owned.  Within months of owning had to have service come out because the power board died.  Recently the "e" key fell off, and when service came out to replace it they could not get the battery out to replace the keyboard because 3 of the 5 screws were stripped out.  Now I have a computer with no "e" key, replacement parts are on long term backorder, and I'm being offered a refurbished computer with no way of knowing it's age to replace mine.  And the only warranty that comes with the refurbished is the 11 months left on the warranty I paid out of concern that I already had a "lemon" -  the refurbished would not be warrantied otherwise.  Reading all the comments on the Inspiron series, however, it appears it's not just my computer.  Poor quality laptop, difficult to understand customer support, and horrible customer service.  Truly unfortunate that they don't stand behind their machines. Will never purchase a Dell again.

I bought an admittedly lower end Dell laptop and the screen fell apart and was left hanging after hardly any use and sitting on my kitchen table without being moved.  I put off contacting Dell and waited to my dismay past the short warranty period.   What I was offered was to send my laptop to someone who would glue it back together.  I wanted credit for an upgraded new made model for which I'd pay the difference, that's all.  This was obviously a widespread problem recognized by Dell.  When I told the foreign gentleman I would never buy another Dell he laughed.  Guy did me a favor.

I’m sorry to hear about your frustrating experience, but I think it's important to highlight that not all Dell products are the same. While it sounds like your daughter’s 2-in-1 laptop had serious issues, Dell’s XPS line and many other models are known for their reliability and long lifespan—something you experienced with your previous XPS laptops. Unfortunately, it seems like this case was poorly handled by support, which added to the frustration. It’s worth noting that Dell has improved its customer service options in recent years, including U.S.-based support for certain products. While this situation was disappointing, many customers still have positive experiences with Dell laptops overall.

I hate Dell computers. I bought an xps 15 two years ago and I have had nothing but problems. I'm about to throw it in the trash and buy something else. As a business owner, I need something much more reliable.

Their computers and so does their service. I hope the people who decided to farm out tech support to India regret it when their company goes out of business. Was the extra savings worth it, Dell? Because I've never found Indian tech support to be competent.
