Dual channel with two different sized memory sticks

Dell G5 15 5590

Dell G5 15 5590

Hello,

My Dell G5 5590 motherboard supports dual-channel usage and I'm planning to upgrade RAM from 8GB TO 24GB (8GB + 16GB, same memory speed on both sticks). However, I'm not sure whether I'll lose the dual-channel feature and does it slow down my system?

In this upgrade example, will dual-channel work?

I see no consensus on the internet on whether using different-sized RAM sticks will block dual-channel. Some people say that same-sized RAM sticks are needed, although some people say all that is needed is the same speed on both RAM sticks.

Thanks,

Answer is the same as for your other question in the second thread.  If you use 8+16, 16G will run at dual channel, full bandwidth;  the remaining 8G will be half bandwidth.

If you want full dual channel operation, either install two 8G or two 16.
