Error Code 2000-0142 on a SSD
I am having trouble with a laptop booting up. On bootup I keep getting error code 2000-0142 "Short Self Test Failed" but the laptop has a SSD not a HDD. It is on an Inspiron model 13-7378. I found it hard to believe the SSD failed so soon. I purchased a SATA to USB adapter which is way cheaper than a new SSD. When I plug the adapter into another laptop's USB the SSD works perfectly fine. I can view all the files, pictures, documents and etc. This leads me to believe the SSD is working fine. I reinstalled the SSD after checking it, cleared the BIOS error message log, and I am STILL getting the same error and the laptop will not boot. What else can this error code mean if there is nothing wrong with the SSD?

Being able to boot is different from the SSD being readable when plugged into an adapter and used essentially as a USB flash drive.
Since it is a bootable SSD, try booting with it while still in the enclosure on the other laptop.
