FPS keeps dropping due to clock speed

Hey all, I have a very annoying problem that I would really enjoy getting some help with. Whenever I play a game (Fortnite, Overwatch, Rainbow, etc), my fps randomly drops from about 144 to below 20 for a couple seconds. This generally happens when my gpu usage spikes to 99% while my cpu usage is 33%. Initially, I thought it was a cooling problem so I got a cooling pad (I have a laptop FYI) and it worked for about 2 months. I tried to underfoot my laptop to -160 but it didn’t work to fix the problem. Recently, I have realized that when my GPU is above 95% usage(it is usually 70% to 90%), the clock speed drops below 500MHz. The GPU temp is generally around 77C and CPU is about 75-80 (sometimes spikes to 80-85). Any fix to this problem?

My specs:

CPU: Intel i7-8750H

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 with Max-Q design

RAM: 8GB

MODEL:Dell G7 16

I have an Asus GL504GM with similar specs. i have the same problems as you. i recently played Far Cry New Dawn. At start the gpu clock speed is good at ~1600Mhz. and suddenly there are random stuttering.it will go at 99% and clock speed of 150-400Mhz and then go back to normal. this also happened in PUGB. I thought it was my laptop as i had the same problem in the past. but it was fixed with a bios update. i got multiple revisions of the bios. i thought it was the new bios doing that. then i reverted to an old bios thinking it will fix the issue. But no. Then i tried googling and i found you with the exact problem. the problem arrises when i updated the Nvidia drivers. i think that i will DDU thee drivers and reinstall older drivers

No solution bruh. Still with the same stuttering issue. The only option left is to re-apply thermal paste and see what happen

i just bought a G7 7500: i7 10750M with RTX 2070 Max Q and in games, the GPU goes to 100% usage and CPU sits low at 30% and games goes from 120fps to 11fps and game is NOT playable.

Has anyone found a fix for this? i paid a good price for this laptop to have gaming mobile while im away from my desktop and my old Inspiron 7577 Gaming works better!!!
