Factory Image restore preparation failed - Inspiron 5770
After countless Blue Screen errors, I've attempted to clean install Windows 10. In SupportAssist OS Recovery, I get message "Factory Image restore preparation failed, please try the action again". And I can go no further.
I've tried to reinstall from hard drive using the Windows recovery tools, but it froze up at 7%. Then tried to install from 2 different sources of removable media but it goes into an endless loop. When it reboots, it boots into recovery media and never is able to find the OS I just installed on the hard drive.
The recovery partitions are all in tact including 1. System 2. MSR reserve 3. Primary 4. Recovery 5. Recovery (Image) 6. Dell Support.
I've tried to use windows recovery to locate a disk image but it can't find any. Is there a way to get the disk image from any of these partitions? For example, the one labeled "IMAGE". That would be awful nice.
I suspect hardware failure but this is very frustrating. When I run Dell and Windows memory tests it locked up the computer at about 1/2 way. Laptop is 1 year old.
Any advice is welcome.

I ran the full diagnostic and it locks up completely during a memory test, so I never even really see a result. The device would operate in safe mode without crashing. I suspect a display driver was causing the issue but I had great difficulty manipulating drivers and software since it would only operate in safe mode. It still doesn't explain why it refuses to do a clean install especially when using the Dell restore tool. I have not yet completely wiped all the drive partitions to start from scratch.

If the clean install fails with the result you mentioned, it is starting to look like a hardware problem. Have you tried tapping F12 when you see the Dell splash screen and running full diagnostics? Also you could try reseating the memory and try a test again. At this point my guess would be a RAM or HDD problem. If you tried a clean install, which would normally wipe out the recovery partition, and it failed then it is possible the partition names are there but the partition data has been wiped out.

Replaced solid state drive. Managed to reinstall windows despite freezing twice. Same issues persisted with random freezing and blue screen errors. Bad laptop.
