The driver update suggested above does NOT work. Dell needs to sort out BIOS releases especially when they affect security.

Thank you for your message. This issue has been escalated to the BIOS team. The temporary fix, for now, is to downgrade the BIOS to version 2.2.0.

The BIOS engineering team is working on a BIOS update. A new BIOS 2.4.0 will web posted at the end of July 2019 to prevent the issue from happening.

I downgraded the Bios back to v.2.2.0, the Goodix sensor reappeared in the Device Manager, I reinstalled the latest Goodix driver, and it works again.

Hard lesson learned: never ever install updates/upgrades so soon after they are released.

Same issue here on Dell Inspiron 14 5482....3 weeks later. Dell push an update now! End of July is unacceptable! Just push previous BIOS if time is needed...100% of 5482 laptops seemed to be affected and likely others.

I just purchased for fingerprint incorporated into power button and it's already bricked by the OEM! Not looking good Dell. Get to the bottom of this and make sure it doesn't happen again...my faith in your company has taken a hit

Dell published today a new version of the BIOS(2.4). I've tested it on my machine and for now, everything looks ok.

Hello Robert, I have exactly the same issue with model Dell Inspiron 5587. Fingerprint reader stopped working after last BIOS update which was in April. Do you know when is new BIOS update sheduled for 5587?

Same thing here after update. Remote support couldn't fix it (they didn't even try BIOS update), then escalated request, THEY couldn't fix it either. I was told it was a hardware issue and my computer had to be sent into the repair depot to have the fingerprint sensor replaced. FOUR WEEKS my computer was there...part was back-ordered, blah, blah, blah. Got it back, fired it up, and it's STILL not working. That's when I found this thread. Just installed the new updated that was released while it was out at the depot...STILL not working.

@olsamuel Same on Latitude 5540. I have the 1.16.0 BIOS, cannot downgrade, reasoning from dell is: "After 1.12.0, downgrading is not doable caused by security reasons"
