G15 5511, RAM compatibility

Hello All,

I have just received my new G15 5511 and decided to upgrade RAM from 8GB to 16GB. This has not been a success as the laptop did not recognize the new RAM so I thought I'd share what I've found out. I couldn't find a list of known compatible RAM online or in the manuals, so I decided to start this thread. Feel free to add you experience.

Kingston Fury 3200MHz 1x8GB CL20-22-22. Would not POST or get to BIOS. Blink code 2,5 "Invalid memory installed" Tried the Kingston on it's own and with the factory 8GB stick with the same results.

Has anyone installed 64gb ram? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

I'm still waiting to get mine.  Christmas gifts pretty much wiped out my discretionary income, and I seem to have developed hobbies that consume vast amounts of cash...  high performance offroad diesel trucks, gaming laptop and desktops, firearms, p.a. light and sound, etc...  BUT, the research I've done indicates if you buy compatible, i.e., (1.2v, cas 52, non-xmp, etc.), the 5511 will recognize all 64Gb. Gskills Ripjaws are probably the best option, as many are running it in Dell laptops with no issues.  Check the memory reviews at the big online retailers.

Great thread - wish I would have found this thread a week ago, but I to say that

pny xlr8 ddr4 3200mhz 32gb (2x16gb sticks) - mn32gk2d43200x DOES NOT WORK.

Looks like it's CL20 and has xmp 2.0 support, so back to amazon it goes.  Really interested to see if anyone got 64gb to work on their dell before I go and make a new purcahse.

UPDATE:  can confirm the 5511 should handle 64 gb of ram.

I am running the 8gb stick that came with it and a 32 gb sick of

Patriot Signature Line Series DDR4 32GB (1 x 3G2B) 3200MHz SODIMM

Yes.  It will recognize 64Gb of ram.  It will also recognize larger than 1Tb nvme ssd's.  Feel free to throw in a 1,2 or 3 Tb 2280, if you have a spare.  Dell really undersold the capabilities for some reason.

I just bought the 64gb Gskills Ripjaws F4-3200C22D-64GRS. I will let you guys know once I received it whether it works or not.

Thanks for all your help, this avoided me some unnecessary trouble.

Hi, it's me again!

If anyone is wondering, I installed successfully the 64gb Gskills Ripjaws mentionned above. Everything went very well and no compatibility issue, thanks to the recommendations from this group regarding the only supported latency.

Here's a few pictures attached.

Cheers!BeforeBeforeAfterAfterAfter-1After-1

Nice.  I put my upgrades on hold, as I recently got an Alienware R12 that only came with 16Gb of system memory.  It really needs the ram more than my laptop does.  Hopefully, one of these days I'll get the laptop done!

This thread is linked in another thread asking about RAM in the G15 5515 Ryzen edition laptop.

Has anyone been able to confirm that the 5515 can also utilize 64GB and/or which SODIMMS will actually work in it?

Review from G skill 64Gb kit on the 'egg...  Apparently, others are having success.

Great for Dell G15 5515 Ryzen 11/11/2021 12:31:19 PM

Pros: Although the manual claims only 32gb support, the Dell G15 5515 ryzen detects all 64gb and runs in dual channel at 3200. This is the perfect upgrade for a very reasonable price.

Cons: None

Overall Review: Great quality and value. Would buy again.

I can confirm that the G.Skill Ripjaws F4-3200C22S-32GRS RAM will work in the G15 5515 in both a single (32GB) and dual (64GB) configuration.

To add to the list of ram that doesn’t work with the g15 5511 2021. Mushkin redline ddr4  -3200mhz 16-18-18-38 1.35v 2x32gb kit . No boot. Blinking light on Caps only that’s with 1 stick of 32gb or 2 sticks of 32gb same results  Nothing… put the same ram in my MSI older laptop booted and recognizes and is functioning a lot faster. SO I will try the ripjaw 64gb kit on my dell and see if I have results like some others on here.

Yes. The voltage on the Mushkins is too high, and the latency is a bit too performance oriented. I FINALLY got my 64Gb of Gskill Ripjaws installed, along with the 1tb Samsung 980 put into the 2280 slot. Results: Absolute baseline 3dMark Timespy score went from 8788 to 9057. This is with no overclock on the gpu, and no change to the cpu or cooling setup. Base, room temperature. I should be able to crack 9300-9400 on Timespy with an adequate environment. Remember folks, your 5511 WILL accept larger than 2TB M.2 NVME drive, as well as 64Gb of low voltage, semi-low latency RAM. It's all on what you want to spend. Next is the 165HZ, 300nit screen that I should have spec'd when I ordered it...

P.S. Unlike the factory memory, the Ripjaws is dual rank. It has a fairly slow latency of 22, but it does work well. Not sure why, but Dell isn't allowing me to post pictures or edit anything.
