G3 15 3500 ssd upgrade

Hi everybody,

I would like to know if i could add a 1TB 2.5" SSD disk to this configuration.

https://www.dell.com/en-ca/shop/dell-laptops/new-dell-g3-15-gaming-laptop/spd/g-series-15-3500-laptop/ng153500_h6800e

I searched online (forums, Youtube etc...) and most users say that it has 1 M2 slot (already used) and 1 SATA (available), but some other users have 2 M2 slots (1 used and 1 free) and no SATA. So which one is this ?

I need to add my SSD disk so i would like to know if there is a SATA slot available.

Thank you !

Hello, Caplaur.

The Dell G3 15 3500 supports one of the following storage configurations:

● One M.2 2230/2280 solid-state drive
● One 2.5-inch hard drive and one Intel Optane
● One 2.5-inch hard drive and one M.2 2230/2280 solid-state drive
● One M.2 2230 solid-state drive and one M.2 2280 solid-state drive

The configuration you have selected for your PC includes only one 256GB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive, which means it should come with space for one 2.5-inch hard drive up to 2 TB

You can also see the storage specs of this model on the following manual:

Looks like it depends on the battery you buy with the system. There are two:  a 3-cell and a 4-cell, the larger of which consumes the space a 2.5" drive would need.

You may also find there's mounting hardware not included for a 2.5" drive if you purchase the system without one - see the manuals:

That's what i was thinking, too - larger battery should make the difference, but never heard about missing mounting bracket, i'll check this too.

Thank you very much !

@DELL-Cares

I read the G3 15 3500 documentation and bought the computer alongside a M.2 2280 SSD recently.

Originally coming with a 256Go M.2 2230 SSD, I can understand from the documentation that there exist an optional storage config of "One M.2 2230 solid-state drive and one M.2 2280 solid-state drive".

I've been trying to find out where to find the second M.2 socket for mounting the second storage SSD for hours and I'm getting very annoyed at the description inside the documentation.

Here a picture of my hardware : https://ibb.co/jHWpgTS

Could you help me out?

Desperately yours

Hello, I’m your Dell virtual assistant. I see you've opened a thread.

In order for me to review your system configuration, may I have the Service Tag / Express Service Code/ Order Number?

Refer the below link to find the Service Tag:

Hi..  I am having the exact same issue.  Were you able to find the spot for the second SSD drive.  I confess I am worried that it does not have one.  But was hoping that you were able to locate it as my machine is the same as yours.

Thanks.
