G3 15 3590 Hinge Problem or Design flaw
I have a Dell G3 15 3590, I bought this last September, just last year November the hinge of the G3 starts sounds cracking while closing the the panel and after a few days it's cracked open in the back, so a service expert came in our house and starts replacing the LCD panel, and just last week March the Hinge problem started again and it's even worse than the last problem, the lcd in the front just cracked and the hinge is opened and I cannot close it anymore.
Sorry for my bad English.

Wow, amazing. Wish I had read more before I bought this laptop.
The design might be faulty but the irresponsible behavior of Dell is unacceptable. I do not want to wait 6-7 weeks for repair and pay who knows how much for their design failure. I was in a rush and I had to pick this Dell product but if Dell does not acknowledge some responsibility this would be my last Dell product.
I have been using laptops for more than 15 years and never had a problem with the hinges. Especially, my G3 is connected to an external monitor and stays on my desk, never took it to another place in contrast to my other gigs which I carried with me a lot of times due to my work back then. The Dell G3 hinges are broken in 8 months. I only open my lid once a day to turn on the computer, then let it stay on sleep mode for the rest of the day.
I mean, it is less than 300 times that I possibly opened the lid, how could they miss something like that before they market the product?
I am sorry and I hope Dell comes up with a satisfactory solution because it is a good laptop and gonna be sad to see it wasted like this.

like legit I've had this laptop for 1 year and 2 months, have done this repair 3 times already, I've really became very good and efficient at it, I used to have an HP device before that for 5 years it worked perfectly fine and now comparing dell to HP I cant even help but laugh, I cant complain about dell's warranty cuz I got my laptop from the US and now i live in Turkey, so I can kiss warranty goodbye, still though the design issue stands, so dell standing by its customers is a very good thing to do after they did a big dodoo, I don't know why they have chosen to keep their customers in the dark like this, for me though, this is the last dell product ill be purchasing. thank you.

We just had this same problem happen to us. My wife went to close the lid and heard a creak/CRACK. Sure enough, the hinge now causes the lid to pop out and there's a loose screw in there.
Talking on the phone, they didn't seem confident that it would be covered under Basic warranty.
Definitely seems like a design flaw. Computer's less than a year old.

I have this same problem with my DELL G3 3590 (bought on September 2019), the hinges crack-opened the G3 back plate every time I opened the screen. This happened after my warranty expired (August 2020), but the laptop was barely used (30 times for less than 4 hrs) as this is a backup laptop, I mainly use my desktop computer.
I decided to omit this issue, because i was reading that DELL won't cover this problem, they think it is a 'COSMETIC ISSUE'.
I thought: 'This couldn't get any worst than having the G3 backplate open'. Oh boy, i should have paid attention, it turns out that moving the hinges will get harder and harder, until they will crack-open the whole screen frame and then they will crack the screen itself.
With these damages, any decent company with ALL these complaints will at least do a recall and fix or refund their customers, it's obvious that there is a design flaw. But to be honest, i don't think DELL will respond to none of us, even when my laptop had its active warranty (4 months after purchase), i called DELL support because the HDD CADDY/ SATA CABLE for a 2nd hard drive came defective, I only asked them to send me a replacement SATA cable because the one included came defective, and supposedly DELL doesn't cover additional accessories. [I wonder how a Factory HDD Caddy/w SATA cable that came with the laptop is an additional accessory?].
If something as simple as a sata cable replacement, they didn't replace it, I don't think they will respond/recall/fix a defective hinge or cracked screen caused by this defect.
Now with a little more of a year since I bought this laptop, it became useless [broken hinges, cracked back plate and screen frame, cracked screen]. I don't think there is a permanent fix, as others have stated, even after repairs, this issue will come back, so any attempts are worthless.

I have the same issue. This is clearly a design flaw. I contacted Dell support today and they were unwilling to help me without "paid" support to fix the hinge, even though he claimed their engineers were still working on a final solution. Looking through the other posts about this same issue, it sounds like it will continue to happen and require continual fixes. This is the last Dell I will ever buy and I was a very loyal customer. They really let me down with this. Sad.

I have the same problem too. To be truthful, the laptop is the worst I have ever purchased. We have had issues since day 1. The power pack stopped charging after 3 months which was an issue with the software, The laptop had to be sent away for 3 weeks. When we first purchased the computer they sent us a German keyboard. We had untold difficulties in explaining to them that we live in England, we are British and we speak English. After lots and lots of emails they changed the laptop. The laptop lags, sticks, is slow at certain times but now with the hinge problem the back which has totally fallen to pieces, and the screen stopped working, this is now a job for trading standards. Disgusting customer service.

This is an update for everybody having this problem, because Dell won't offer a solution.
'As Always' they will make you pay for their mistakes.
The following can help greatly, for those who are not to blame for this clear design flaw, and don't want to pay them a cent:
-The 2021 G3 model parts (which are compatible with the 2019 one), DELL improved the hinges and the screen back cover (instead of having 3 screws holding each hinge, now they have a reinforced back cover with 5 screws holding each hinge. Newer hinges come with a different adjustment (Soften travel)
If your screen cracked like mine, it can be replaced with a newer model with higher refresh rates 120 or 144Hz, but if you are conservative like me, you'll probably just replace it with the standard 60Hz.
Do not overpay on DELL, please Google other sites like eBay or other online stores and you'll find these parts for cheap. If you go with DELL, expects parts to be sold for double or triple (go figure!). Third party stores offer genuine OEM parts too so no worries there getting a knock off or counterfeit.
*Repairs with reinforced improved back cover and newer hinges will be $65
*New screen 60hz $80.00 or the improved model 144hz $160.00
You can receive the parts on the mail and there are plenty of tutorials to DIY on Youtube.
With these improvements, expect the computer to last more than with the initial defective back cover and hinges. I'll update everybody in the next 6 months how did it go with the improved parts.
DELL should recall the 2019 model and fix our laptops with these improved parts from the 2021 model for FREE, but guess what, that is not going to happen.
This will be the last DELL computer that I will ever purchase.
My intention is to help everybody that DELL is planning to charge them $250 or $400 or more on repairs. You can fix this for less and as me this will be a lesson learned. DELL never again.

I also just had my first "crack" yesterday. I bought my laptop on November 2019 and always used it carefully. Today I heard the "crack" again (I forgot about the problem and closed the laptop, I'll leave it open for now on). After this second "crack" I can see a lot backlight on the bottom of my screen. I'm definitely not happy with Dell. To make everything better, my warranty expired in December 2020. Let's see what's going to happen...

i had this problem and this is what i bought. note the hinges are identical so if you have all your screws you can just loosen the factory hinge nut a little instead of buying these hinges. but you will need the back cover for the 5 screw placements. https://www.ebay.ca/itm/283988510971?hash=item421f08c8fb:g:vHQAAOSwvAJfQ3Vr also here's a video tear down someone has made its not in English but it helped me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFus3RxqWWo

Please see my post titled "broken hinge for G3 15 - 3590". There are 1000's of people that have this issue and Dell DOES NOT CARE! I say it's time we make them care. This is such a prevalent issue there are YouTube videos on how to replace the hinges!
