Also same issue on my G3 15. Just under 2 years old and the left hinge has completely broken. Honestly seems to be due to the heat and fan placement as all the glue under the screen bezel has separated also. Totally should be a product recall for this.
I have purchased 3 of these G3 units. Luckly the newest one has a completely different design. But my first one I purchased that has never even left the desk now has this same issue. Its just a few months out of warranty. I contacted tech support basically 60 bucks for them just to look at it and then give me a quote on repair cost. Its definitely a design flaw with so many having the same issue. Worst part I accused my son of dropping it, then when i looked it up online and seen so many having issues with same thing.
even my laptop faced the same problem its so delicate the design is stupid its complete fault of design and dell should see to eat that their customer don't face such issues is they do they should support them to get fixed .i have raised my support case hope dell helps me fix it under warranty cover
Add one more to the list. My G3's hinge failed 3 months out of warranty. Service's only response was to ask me to send it in with a bunch of money, and they might fix it in 2-3 weeks.
but the local service center representing Dell in Qatar requires around 500 usd as fees and refuses to acknowledge that is designing flaw. I am really disappointed under warranty and force us to pay a designing flaw. The prove they stoped selling it in Qatar. They refund owners elsewhere but in Qatar they let them pay. Double standard warranty policy
Also have a G3, out of warranty. All the screws just randomly decided to fall out. Was previously considering a dell laptop replacement but they sure like to overcharge for stuff that's about to be obsolete, even with 'sales'. So I think I'll go with a different brand instead lol. It's funny to me, because any other company would do product recalls free of charge all the time for years and years but Dell doesn't. Oh well. I had a different brand before this and will have a different brand after this.
My Dell 3590 lived on a desk and had only been closed, gently, a handful of times when its hinge broke. Dell ignored my emails during the warranty period, and by telephone unjustly accused me of abusing the laptop. The Best Buy store where I bought it reports that the hinges broke similarly on every one of this model that they sold. It appears I made a terrible mistake in trusting Dell to respect my $1,000 purchase. Has anyone found a way to persuade Dell to be honorable, by fixing or replacing these computers? They made a mistake selling these. They should fix it. Too bad, because other than the hinge, this is the best modestly priced laptop I've ever used. It's performance outclasses its price — or it would, if it legitimately passed as a laptop, instead of as a fragile desktop. It is useless, because it can not be moved!
I took mine apart, the hinges apparently completely locked up and that's the cause of the issue with it not closing completely. I'm not sure why they locked up over time but I did loosen the bolts. As to getting it back together I'm going to have to use an epoxy of some sort to make sure there is a good bond. I'm only worried about the hinge joints becoming locked in the future and being able to access them. I'm very disappointed that this occurred and it's a shame that this occurred because this isn't a warranty issue this is a design flaw that isn't apparent over the long run, specifically because the hinge was slowly tightening over time with each open and shutting of the laptop.
@DELL-Cares I just got the same problem, looks like its the most common problem for this model other than fans, can I know how much it Costs at repair shops and how much if I do it myself?
I have the same problem as others. Unfortunatly after 10 years using Dell laptop, I purchased this model and 3 months that happened and the hinge and monitor part completely dipached from the hinge even the most of the screws got out from its place. Its very bad design from Dell. But what we should do after we trusted this product?

I did the repair myself. Used a strong epoxy resin. It worked like a charm. Total cost: 5.30 usd
