G3 Keyboard Repeating Character, not working intermittently.

I have a problem ith the keyboard not orking, or repeating characters. It seems to be in columns, 2wsx and 3edc (see pervious sntence, spelling is correct)

Sometimes it won't type the characters and I have to try multiple times, other times it ill repeat the character 2 or 3 times. I cleaned the keyboard, it' not sticking. I a having an issue with the touch pad, the left button wasn't working  so I cleaned it. There was debris between the contacts. I was hoping this was also affecting the keyboard but it doesn't seem to be, the touch pad ork fine since I cleaned it.

I've een this issue in the forum, but the fi doesn't seem to apply to the G3. omething to do with the BIOS seettings?

(there are no typing rrors in this post, thi is how it i working right now)

If needed, adjust the keyboard delay rate (Windows)
  • Open Control Panel, Tap or Click Keyboard.
  • In the Keyboard Properties Window, move the repeat rate slower on the slider. : Lower repeat rate in Windows Keyboard Properties.

I took the computer apart and cleaned everything. I inspected the ribbon cable and there was a slight defect in one of the lines. I plugged it back in as tight as possible and it appears to have fixed it for now. I'll have to replace the ribbon cable to know for sure. Seems odd since it's never been touched since buying the computer. If it's the cable it's not due to wear and tear, it's a defect in manufacturing. Dell should replace things like this on warranty. But they won't. I had the track pad replaced in the first couple months under warranty, now it's doing the same. Kind of disappointed with the quality of this machine, it's not like my previous Dell computers in terms of build quality.

Nope didn't work. This is a common problem with 3579 keyboards, and the keyboard is not replaceable. You have to buy the whole top shell of the computer because the keyboard is plastic welded into it. (you can change it but it's extremely tedious melting the 40 or so posts to get it out, then again to get it back in properly)
