G5 5587 Memory addition
I tried to add 8gb of memory to a G5 5587 to bring the unit to 16gb. I actually ordered the same SKhynix 8 gb module part number that was installed from the factory. I followed the service manual instructions which seemed pretty simple. But when I pressed the power on button nothing happened and there was no boot sequence like normal. I removed the new 8gb, and the laptop booted right up.
I've added memory on older Dells many times, and don't recall an issue.
Is there information missing in the service manual? Do I need to let the unit power up and recognize the added memory?
Any assistance would be appreciated.

You need to make sure that this new module is working, remove the original RAM module, and install this new one on the same slot, if it works, then try to installing only the original RAM module to the second slot to make sure that this isn't neither the new RAM module or the other slot.
When the new memory was installed, did the power button LED blinked in any pattern, eg: 2 amber/orange blinks followed by 5 white blinks? Or any other pattern?
Based upon your chipset (Intel HM370) it can support up to 32GB DDR4 2666 MHz of total RAM memory, so please make sure at SupportAssist or directly from Dell Drivers and Downloads page that you have the lastest BIOS version and also all drivers(specially the ones at the chipset category) up to date.
