My G5 is just back from DELL's after sales service, and I still have intermittent packet losts (Have to wait 1 ou 2 minutes before getting ping gets a Reply).
I tried differents versions of the driver and a full reinstall of the OS... still doesn't work
I tried to change multiple parameters of the WALN, like changing the Wireless mode or disabling the MIMO.
Still have problemes, this G5 is not usable for me...
Can I assume that service replaced the wireless card in your computer? Try disconnecting all other devices from your router so that your G5 is the only computer connected. Then try a wired connection. What you are doing is isolating the problem. If wired works fine but even connected alone with wireless you have problems, it may be a hardware issue on your system. I believe you stated that you have installed the most current drivers for your wireless card. Are you connected on the 2.4 or 5 Ghz frequency? It may be another device (Wireless keyboards, mice, trackpads, and trackballs) is interrupting your connection. Even some cordless phones run at 2.4Ghz. If none of that helps you could go into Device Manager and click on your wifi card and then choose uninstall. Restart Windows and the card will be detected and reinstalled. After all of that if you have problems, try a USB wifi adapter. The range is not as good as the internal card but it will at least show you if your internal card is the culprit, if the USB works fine.
Thank you for your message. Does the Wi-fi disconnect irrespective of the application used or only when gaming? Do you get any error message when the connection drops & does it connect automatically?
Have you tried connecting to a different network to check if the issue persists?
For my reference, please click on the message tab next to your avatar– click “New Message” & search for my Dell username (Sreejith R) & send a private message with the service tag, registered name & email address.
This problem only seems to happen when I'm playing games. It does this no matter which network I am connected to. There is no error message other than one from the game that says I have lost connection. Is this a common problem with this laptop model? Do I need to replace the built in wifi card?
If the issue is observed only when gaming, it could be a software issue. Try disabling the SmartByte application if installed & check if the issue persists.
I've tried this and the issue persists. Also the disconnects are now happening regardless of whether I am gaming or just browsing the internet now.
When I was connected to a different network, the laptop would not disconnect but the connection would become severely limited. This would happen about as often as the disconnects I am experiencing now.
Please download & save the Wi-Fi driver to your desktop screen. Disconnect the system from the network – Open device manager – expand network adapter – right click on the wi-fi driver & click on uninstall- check the box that says delete driver.
Install the driver saved on your desktop screen & reboot the computer. Please let us know the outcome.
For further assistance, please share the service tag along with the registered name & email address on a private message.
It does it to me all the damn time to. Be playing, usually world of Warcraft or starcraft 2 and will drop internet. minimize screen and says connected to Network name with problems. troubleshoot option resets wifi adapter and lets me reconnect. Always at the worst times to. ive updated drivers, uninstalled, reinstalled, fresh os, nothing fixes it. pretty lame bug.
Any update if you fixed it or why it happened? My g5 just started doing the same thing yesterday when I play world of Warcraft, never had a problem before. Disconnects from WiFi while I’m playing but my phone stays connected to WiFi. Have to restart the computer to be able to reconnect

I'll try this but I am plugged in, so why is there a need for power management?
