G5587 and RAM upgrade issue
Hello,
Any G5587 user got RAM upgrade issue?
I tried two RAM module but the machine failed to detect it.
First one came from Crucial: http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/bls8g4s240fsd
Another one came from Kingston: https://www.kingston.com/dataSheets/HX426S15IB2_16.pdf
Machine failed to detect RAM module and failed to boot.
Did anyone upgrade RAM with G5587, which module is compatible with G5587?

Hey bud, there's a known issue with XMP ram.. For some reason this system doesn't support XMP so any RAM with that feature will not work. Here is a link to ram that WILL work in this system

YES, am having the same issue!!! My G5 is less than 30 days old, same with the Crucial RAM. I initiated service request to DELL to be told its the memory. I have spoken with Crucial who says its the computer - update the bios. Typical.
First set of RAM (going from 16GB to 32 GB) - black screen no boot. Returned and received second set. Same issue. Dell tech says update bios - and its the RAM that is bad.
So, I have just updated bios to the 1.3.0. I will be using the Crucial RAM for this attempt after the bios update. Will post results.
This is apparently a KNOWN ISSUE to Dell.
ADDENDUM: After the bios update, using the Crucial's Ballistix Sport 16GB DDR4 2666 SODIMM. I tried these combinations (per Dell Tech Support Instruction):
Thanks for the hint on the Kingston RAM.

I mixed Hyper Memory and Kingston basic memory, so far no problem on slow speed.

I hope Dell can update their bios soon to fix Ram issue compatibility. I was close to returning the laptop to get an HP Omen only because I could not upgrade to Ballistics 16GB 8x2

I ordered a g-skill ripjaws 8GB 2666 CL19 and it works fine.
Honestly, it is worth the money upgrading to 16 GB model of the G5 15 because they come with 2x8 GB modules; Dual channel mode.
The 8 GB model only comes with one module and if you plan on gaming, single channel mode can hinder performance.

Ballistics 2 x 8GB kit now works with the new BIOS update. Ram operates at 2400 MHz on dual channel mode and not 2666 MHz because the kit is overclockable and Dell BIOS operates ram at stock speeds however, it does operate at a CAS latency of 16.
Ram does make a difference in gaming, about 5 to 10 FPS average increase compared to stock Dell ram.

I had the same problem when I tried to install the memory HyperX Impact 32GB DDR4 2400MHz SODIMMm, my BIOS versions was 1.3.0. After the update the BIOS for 1.6.0, it works. So, it's just to update the BIOS

Is the HyperX ram faster than using 2666mhz CL19 in all circumstances?
