MY COMPUTER STOPPED WORKING. I AM NOT EVEN ABLE TO BOOT IT. WHEN I RAN DIAGNOSTIC TESTS IT SAID HARD DESK SELF CHECK FAILED. CAN YOU HELP ME TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE
I also have a Dell Inspiron 1545 that is out of warranty (by a few months) and a failed HDD drive as per the posts above (Error 2000-0142).
Could you tell me how I can get the specification for a replacement drive and how I might obtain one either- from Dell or one of its agents and delivered in the UK?
Any standard 2.5" SATA notebook drive (hard drive, hybrid drive or solid state drive) 7- or 9.5 mm height, will work. Any computer shop or online store will have a workable replacement drive.
Hi my name is krystal lopez and I am experiencing the same problem as the one above... an error 2000-0142. I purchased my laptop from Dell about four years ago... Can you please get back to me asap if you can help me by checking into my product and what can be done to fix it!!! This computer has my whole life on it!!!
If you don't have a backup of your data, remove the hard drive, mount it in an external case (see link) and make one - NOW. You will need to attach the drive to a working system. When you order the case, you will also need a new, 2.5" 7- or 9.5 mm SATA notebook drive; your hard drive has failed.
Call Dell with the exact error - they will send you a replacement drive (on most systems the drive is user-replaceable). If your system does not have a user-replaceable drive, they'll either send you a box in which to return the system to Dell for service, or arrange for onsite service if you purchased that with the system).
I am accually having the same exact problem and its say Hard Drive Failure error code 2000-0142 validation 118066. What should I do to fix this problem?

You can check the warranty status using the service tag number.

Dear forum / Dell support guru's,
Please help. I have just run a diagnostic on my Inspiron 15R and have the following error message:

The given code and

If the system is in warranty, contact Dell and they'll replace the drive.
If it's out of warranty, you will most likely need to purchase a 2.5" 7- or 9.5 mm SATA notebook drive.
