How do I force a format, let me explain
This description with be a bit lengthy. I apologize. I have a problem which requires a lengthy description.
I have a Dell, inspiron 5555 laptop, which I purchased in August of 2016. I had a problem with the battery suffering a fatal problem so I needed to replace it. I replaced it with a non-Dell battery which has never worked. every time I reboot I get a screen that says "The AC power adapter wattage & type cannot be determined. The system will adjust the performance to match the power available. Please connect a Dell 45 WAC adapter or greater for the best system performance. Your batter has experienced a permanent failure and needs to be replaced." From this page, I only have 3 options: Continue, BIOS setup or Diagnostics. This is still only part of my problem.
The laptop would work fine as long as I hit continue and had it plugged in to a power source, which is what I have been doing for the last 6 months. However, the speed of the computer has been getting slower and slower and I've tried all the maintenance such as disc defrag etc.
I finally did a full system backup and created a system image AND I also created a system repair disc. My goal was to format the computer back to the original factory setting in the hope that would get it running faster. I don't want to purchase the correct battery IF my processor is going down or the computer has a major problem.
Finally to my question: I've tried to follow all the normal ways to reboot my computer such as hitting the F8 key repeatedly after the Dell log appears and I tried to reboot from the repair disc but was unable.
Is there a way to force the computer to format itself. I hope I've explained this properly. I will watch for any questions you may have and I certainly appreciate your advice.

Hi rdomin,
Thanks for posting. Apologies that your system is not performing as expected.
Here is information from the Dell knowledge base you may find helpful:
Need to reinstall your PC's operating system?
Troubleshoot Windows 10
Additionally you can try this:
1. Insert the recovery media into a USB port or a DVD drive, depending on the format you used to create the recovery media.
2. Power the computer off.
3. Power the computer on and, at the Dell logo screen, tap the F12 key several times until you see Preparing one time boot menu in the top right corner of the screen.
4. At the boot menu, select the device under UEFI BOOT that matches your media type (USB or DVD).
5. Select your keyboard language.
6. At the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot.
7. Select Recover from a drive.
8. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the reset process. This will take some time and your computer will restart.
If you need additional assistance and the system is still under warranty, please contact me privately. Be sure to include your personal information (name, address, telephone, email) and your computer's service tag number in your message. Thanks.
If there is no warranty, then you could contact our Out of Warranty team to get a quote for a paid service call -http://dell.to/1vnT6CQ

F8 will take you to the Windows repair screen but if there are problems in the Windows installation such as corrupt files or a corrupt recovery partition, that will not work. So you have a couple of options. Go to the following Dell support page and download the restore image that will install Windows as it came from the factory including drivers. Or download the Windows media creation tool and clean install Windows. The system should boot from the USB created if you choose the F12 option at the Dell Splash screen.
However if you are concerned about the CPU health, restart the system and at the Dell splash screen start tapping F12 and choose system diagnostics. Run full diagnostics to confirm the health of the hardware in your 5555.
Dell Restore image.
