Inspirion 15 5510 Trackpad Issue

Hi all,

I recently purchased an Inspirion 15 and I'm having an issue where the trackpad is easily pressed with any amount of pressure applied to the front of the case. It even appears that the trackpad will randomly click if I pick the laptop up, or apply too much pressure to the bottom of the case while using it in my lap normally.

Is this a design flaw of this laptop, or have I received a defective unit? Ideally I would like a replacement, but I am not willing to go through the entire process only to find out it is just a design flaw.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated!!

Final Update: I received my second replacement from Dell two days ago and I'm having no issues with the computer thus far. It definitely does look like the two systems I received where either, assembled poorly, or had defects. However, being completely transparent, I am not impressed with how this was handled and I'm not sure if I will be purchasing another system from Dell again. The finance team ended up denying my request for additional compensation - even after given the fact that I was out of a computer (that I paid for) for four weeks while Dell tried to grant me "approval" for another replacement. During that time I was essentially kept in the dark about the progress of the approval, chatting back and forth to reps and calling and sitting on hold for almost 2 hours. One rep even hung up on me after making me hold for 30+min, continuously stating that they "needed additional time to look into the case". That was fine and I waited patiently. However, what was not okay was the fact that the agent hung up on me. Bottom line: The lack of care and urgency through this was incredibly disappointing. Dell needs to do better when it comes to these issues, especially when it comes to a new purchase.

Update: Replacement unit came in yesterday (8/17) and did not have trackpad issue, however, unit was damaged. I unfortunately had to send it back to Dell (along with original unit) and I'm awaiting another replacement to arrive. This entire process has been so beyond frustrating and the lack of care and urgency has been only adding to that. I'm hoping someone reaches out to me about expediting another replacement, because I need this computer for school work. This entire process has been a nightmare.

For any other cursor or movement problems with your Dell trackpad, a readjustment of the trackpad settings can address the issue. Click on the "Start" button, then click on "Control Panel." Click "Mouse," then click "Dell Touchpad" or "Device Settings." This will open the Dell trackpad settings menu. From here, you can adjust the trackpad settings to your desired sensitivity. Often, trackpad problems and erratic cursor movement result from sensitivity settings set too high or too low. Adjust the settings and test out your trackpad to find the right settings for your needs. When finished, click "OK."

Hi Adrian,

Thank you for your reply. The laptop actually ended up being defective and was not assembled properly so that the trackpad inadvertently clicked every time you picked up the laptop. Therefore, it was returned.

I got my brand new Dell Inspiron 15 5510 yesterday (3-Feb-2022).

Firstly, it was the battery issue that drains quickly during usage  Secondly, on several occasions while using the laptop, the trackpad will suddenly stop and refuse work until i will have to restart the laptop before it works again.

The trackpad stoppage has become a repeated issue which is so frustrating and annoying for a brand new laptop of 1-day old. In fact, in all sincerity, i am tired of the laptop already and planning on returning it.
