Inspiron 15 3511 - Poor Graphics Performance with Web-based Applications

I recently received a Dell Inspiron 15 3511 Laptop (11th Gen Intel Core i5 w/ Iris XE Graphics, 8gb RAM, 1tb HDD) and have been having no end of issues with performance, specifically with graphics.

Any programs that use browser engines lag immensely (with the exception of Edge, which I refuse to use) unless Hardware Acceleration is disabled.

The apps still seem to respond instantly on the back-end, but take up to seconds per frame to update on the display.

I have disabled hardware acceleration for almost everything, and tried everything else I can think of to help optimise things, but some applications simply don't have an option for it, and I shouldn't have to do this in the first place.

I have updated every single driver I can, and attempted everything else I can, but it simply won't work properly.

I am able to use other programs that don't rely on browser-based engines just fine, (eg. Adobe software) and have even rendered videos with no issues, but the second a browser attempts to use GPU acceleration it slows beyond ridiculous amounts.

Opening the Task Manager when this is happening shows the GPU and CPU both at low (sometimes zero, in the case of the GPU) percentages.

Oh, AND SupportAssist fails to start, claiming that "We Ran into an unexpected issue"

Try to reinstall the browser again by uninstalling it with deletion of all the files.

I have reinstalled the applications several times, with the same issues presenting themselves, which are only resolved by disabling hardware acceleration.

It's not just a specific browser having issues, it's several browser-based (Electron, React, etc.) applications. (eg. Firefox, Discord, Visual Studio Code)

Issue seems to be resolved.

Possible Solutions:

  • Updating Drivers
  • Temporarily Disabling anti-virus software (Windows Defender)

Whoops. Looks like it's not resolved after all. Some programs seem to work better than others, but the issue is still present.

These Intel settings were suggested to improve the performance.
