Inspiron 15 3558 HDD issues

Hi all,

I recently acquired a second hand Inspiron 15 3558. It was given to me as the previous owner had lost the power cable and said there was a hard drive issue. I bought a new cable and ran the onboard diagnostic which told me the hard drive was causing problems and needed to be replaced.

I bought a new Seagate 1TB SATA HDD, removed the old 500GB SATA SSD, created a Windows 7 bootable USB, and turned it back on..... Windows loaded from the USB, started the process, got to the "select install location" part, and then told me that although it could see there was a disk (disk 0) with 950ish GB available, it couldn't install Windows there because it wasn't enabled in the BIOS

I can't for the life of me figure out what to do next..... I did some poking around and found a drive labeled 'X:' that seems to have some windows recovery data on it... maybe from the previous installation.... but I have no idea where that storage is located or whether I should wipe it? Maybe it's causing a conflict with the new drive?

I've found so much info online that I'm stuck with no idea what to do next.... help/advice/suggestions are always appreciated.

To get this information you need to log on to support, enter your model number and most importantly Enter your Service Tag Number.

That will open all the hardware information on your Particular notebook, You should download and read your Service Manual there you will find out how to open your notebook. Should show you any other storage devices that may be in there.

I'm thinking maybe an MSATA that was set up as a cache drive?

Anyway, the service manual should show you a lot about the notebook and the BIOS settings
