So ..no-one in the Dell community seems to have a clue as to what this problem could be caused by...which is quite disconcerting when you see what a common issue it appears to be.........anyway, certainly taught me a lesson - which is never take a chance buying a Dell laptop ever again.

Go into Setup (F2 at powerup). Does the system recognize the power output of the AC adapter, or does it list "unknown"?

Hi...checked the bios...- sees / lists the adapter as 65w
