Inspiron 3580 update problems

Today is the first day my laptop is no longer under warrentee. Do I have to pay to have someone answer my questions?

Some time last week there were one or two updates which I did successfully. A couple of days after that support assisst notifies me in the notification area that there are updates. When I check with both dell update and support assisst, there is nothing to update. Any reason why it might give fake messages? I am running the latest edition of windows 10 prof 64 bit with all the windows and office 365 updates.

I must admit a couple of weeks ago there was an update for the OS recovery tool. It downloaded quickly but I waited over an hour for it to install. I tried to cancel the installation and nothing happened. Eventually I end tasked it. When I restarted the laptop and I ran dell update and then support assisst it found there was nothing to update. Did I perhaps damage some of the dell software with my end task?

First of all no you don't have to pay, I believe official dell employees won't respond to you unfortunately but anybody else can.

I have heard of support assist causing more issues than it helps, particularly out of warranty, so I wouldn't worry too much.

If there are no issues that are effecting your laptop, and windows update is fully up to date then don't worry about it.

Ending the task won't have hurt your laptop
