Inspiron 3780, problem with touch pad

I purchased an Inspiron 3780 17" laptop in August 2019 and, over the past few months, the left button on the touch pad has become increasingly insensitive.  It will click but will not necessarily do anything unless it's pressed hard which is intolerable.  I assume the touch pad needs replacing but I am open to any suggestions

Thanks
Hans

Remove the bottom cover and check (both sides of) the battery for signs of swelling.  When the battery begins to swell, the first sign is often trouble with the touchpad or touchpad keys.

If the battery is swollen, remove it immediately and dispose of it outside your home or office.  The system will run fine on AC only until you replace the battery - but do not leave a swollen battery inside the system.

Thanks for the suggestion.  Unfortunately the battery is fine so it's again looking like a faulty touch pad.
