@gaklimited

That's weird. I was just able to downgrade to 1.1.8 without issue. Are you following the instructions closely? USB is FAT32 formatted, shut down, remove AC power, hold ctrl-esc, plug in AC power, continue holding ctrl-esc until BIOS recovery appears. It took me a couple tries but I was able to get it eventually. Maybe there's a difference between the 5570 and 5770?

I have the same problem. Dell need to release new BIOS version as soon as possible to fix this error.

However there is still a way to downgrade but I don't know how, I have seen other people on other forum have same issue and were able to fix it with downgrading.

@Manchix check out this forum thread

https://www.dell.com/community/Inspiron/Insp-15-5570-new-bios-update-1-2-3-crashes-my-amd-radeon-530/td-p/7378330

The ctrl+esc method of downgrading to a working bios version is blocked because of security reasons. Basically, they need to release an updated firmware that interacts with the GPU like it did with v1.1.8 but also have the spectre-meltdown patch.

Version 1.2.5 is out now (where is 1.2.4?)

Fixes:
- Firmware updates to address security advisory INTEL-SA-00241 (CVE-2019-0169, CVE-2019-11104, CVE-2019-11090, CVE-2019-0168, CVE-2019-11087, CVE-2019-11101, CVE-2019-11106, and CVE-2019-11147).
- Firmware updates to address Intel security advisories INTEL-SA-00219 (CVE-2019-0117), INTEL-SA-00220 (CVE-2019-0123), and INTEL-SA-00270 (CVE-2019-11135).
- Firmware updates to address the Intel Security Advisories INTEL-SA-00289 (CVE-2019-11157) and INTEL-SA-00317 (CVE-2019-14607).
- Firmware updates to address Intel security advisories INTEL-SA-00260 (CVE-2019-0154) and INTEL-SA-00254 (CVE-2019-0185).
- Fixed an issue with preboot TPM detection and error logging.
- Removed the IpSec driver and application.
- Fixed a BIOS Setup configuration issue that occurs after clearing the CMOS.

Security issues, nothing about GPU...
Haven't tested yet, but will do that tonight!

@The Adder

Please let us know how your test goes. This would be kind of a situation if GPU issues aren't fixed. One would have to choose to either have a fully functional computer or have an insecure computer.

@The Adder

Well, I went ahead and tested out v1.2.5. The same issues with the GPU are back! Wow, what a disappointment. Hopefully I can downgrade without any issues!

@nuke30 @The Adder @Manchix I tried out the 1.2.5 update too, and it still crashes the games (of course nothing has changed, they have not mentioned any gpu-interaction related changes in the changelog).

Downgrading is still blocked...

I hope they don't leave us hanging for another 9 months to fix this...

P.S. Every single game doesn't crash. Cemu and Dolphin work fine but Witcher 1, GTA 4, L.A. Noire, Just Cause 2, Just Cause 3, Saints Row The Third, etc. and other games have a performance hit and crash eventually (which didn't happen with 1.1.8)

Thank you so much. This doesn't help with addressing the security concern but I was able to successfully downgrade it thanks to you. The mistake I made was that before I plugged in the AC adapter, I always pressed the power button, and that cancelled the process I guess.

P.S. to anyone who is now searching dell forums struggling to find a solution because Dell probably won't fix this in the next few upcoming years atleast:

DONT PRESS THE POWER BUTTON WHEN FOLLOWING THE METHOD PROVIDED IN THIS POST'S MARKED SOLUTION.

Thanks for the guideline. I am doing the following steps and not working for me. Please suggest.

1. I copy the Inspiron5570_5770_118.exe file in my USB and insert into the port.

2. Shutdown the laptop.

3. remove AC power, hold ctrl-esc, plug in AC power, continue holding ctrl-esc until BIOS recovery appears

4. On BIOS recovery screen i select the option --> Recover BIOS and confirm

5. System start to update the BIOS and confirm successfully updated. But when i checked the version from command prompt system still showing BIOS version 1.2.3. I tried 2 to 3 times but no change. Please guide.

@OKBKPK

Like @gaklimited wrote: rename the file into 'BIOS_IMG.rcv' and/or try another USB port
Don't use the BIOS build-in flash option.

@OKBKPK

You need to rename 'Inspiron5570_5770_118.exe' into 'BIOS_IMG.rcv' and the put in a FAT32 formatted pendrive.

Don't press the power button at all while holding ctrl+esc, only connect the power plug while holding ctrl+esc.

Using this BIOS version also works: https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-in/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=3p5f0&oscode=wt64a&productcode=inspiron-15-5570-laptop But you need to rename that to 'BIOS_IMG.rcv' to make it work.

You have to abble the option in your OS that show te file format, when a tryed in my dell 5570, I rename the file with .rcv, but doesn't change the file format, a realase that the format still in .exe, so I enable in windows, so you have to search in google how to change the format, it was easy to do it.

I had the same issue as yours. Then I saw somewhere that disabling intel virtualization would work on intel core devices. And it worked. Then downgrading BIOS from 1.2.3 to 1.1.8 worked with one try.

Anyways if you have any thoughts about disabling virtualization will affect system performance, I hope this helps.
