Inspiron 5570 error message "system cannot communicate with your battery"

My 5570 randomly started shutting down recently. Now it will only run when plugged in. When I unplug it, it works for a few minutes then shuts down even though shows full charge. When I plug it in and turn it back on the battery is dead and I get an error message "System cannot communicate with your battery." It recharges, but when I unplug it again same thing happens. Help please!

You can try a system reset (power off, remove base cover, disconnect the battery and hold the power button for 30 sec, reconnect and try booting again.

If you still see the same error, replace the battery.  If it's original to the system, it's four years old and overdue for replacement.

If it IS a replacement battery, is it OEM or third party?

It is a replacement battery, but only about 6 months ago. I believe it is third party as I bought it on Amazon. This might sound stupid, but when I hold the power button for 30 seconds should the laptop be plugged in to the power cord?

No power at all --  the idea is to completely drain the reserve power from the system board.

If that doesn't get the battery recognized, see if the seller offered a year warranty and secure a replacement.

If not, and you plan to replace the battery, try parts-people.com for an OEM battery.

Run battery diagnostics from System diagnostics. Press “esc” when the laptop boots (before the windows logo comes) and then F2 is the way to go System Diagnostics. If battery is still not detected then there might be problem with your battery or the laptop's battery port connection. A quick shift + restart might help.
