Inspiron 5577 heating too quickly

Hi, I have a 2.5 year old Dell Inspiron 5577 [GTX-1050 4GB, 8GB RAM & 1TB Hard-drive [i5-7300HQ 7th gen]

The problem is, when I turn on the laptop and play a game, it heats up really quickly in around 10 minutes and closes automatically after it gets overheat and then I have to turn on the PC again. This has been the issue for quite sometimes and I am unable to find a proper solution for it.

I have a 5577.  Mine came with a 256 GB M.2 SSD and no hard drive.

I don't use mine for gaming, I use it in my recording studio.

However, if the air holes in the case are obstructed, that is one issue.  2nd, when using it for gaming always use the AC power adapter (frames drop quite a bit if only on battery).  Maybe an internal clean out is needed? if you feel you are up to it without damaging anything (otherwise take it to a repair shop and have them clean and check it out).  Last, if the CPU fan is working (working properly) the CPU heatsink thermal paste may need replacement.

Does it run OK on other apps and not gaming?  Is it any game or only certain games?  I haven't check the CPU temperature but I haven't had any heat issues even running it for several hours continuously recording a band's entire 3 hour gig.

I do play games while the laptop is on AC adapter, it runs fine on all apps and games. But it gets really hot and automatically shuts down after overheating. Not sure about the thermal paste or internal cleaning, but I'll definitely look into it.

See if the cooling mechanism of the laptop works properly. See if the air holes are obstructed by dust or dirt.

Check the ceiling limit of the CPU temperature from the BIOS. Reset it to default factory settings if it has been altered.

The first thing you should check is the cooling fan. I guess your laptop has been at least a year old or even more than that so, better to check the cooling fan and if you find dust and dirt on it, clean it and check. This is the most basic check you should do whenever you face overheating.

My man believe me after changing thermal paste (single line method application which is regarded best) my problem didn't resolved for CPU temps neither showed any decrease in GPU temps. My GPU temps are fabulous(GTX 1050) max 67°c ( 30 - 35 °c room temp) but CPU temps were a concern (95°C- 100°C). After thermal repaste temps decreased slightly from 100°C to 91°C CPU. And for GPU no change.
I recommend you to Uñdervolt your system. I undervolted my CPU (i5 7300hq) by -155mV(cache and cpu voltage offset) and experienced no BSOD in any game. FYi I am a pretty heavy gamer and tested many games incl hitman 2 ,GTA V, RDR2 no BSOD. I even undervolted my GTX 1050 by -156mV. And viola my CPU temps have reduced from staggering 100°C to 80°c max !! And GPU temps from 69°C to 57° - 60°C max. Believe me try undervolting your laptop and It took nearly 3 months for me to find these sweet values because many games(except GTA 5) showed BSOD at -170mv Cpu and -50mv HD 630 uñdervolt...And these values :- are stable AF
CPU voltage offset
Cache :- -155mV
Core :- -155mV
Graphics :-
GTX 1050 :- -156mv
Hd 630 :- 0.0mV
Software used for Cpu uñdervolt :- intel XTU
Software used for GPU uñdervolt :- MSI afterburner
