Inspiron 5593 NVMe Edge Connector Key Type

I've scoured the supplied Dell documents for my Inspiron 5593 laptop and have established the NVMe M2 drive size is 2280 but cannot find any reference to which edge connector it uses. Is is M Key, B Key or M and B Key?

The original order says: Item 400-BGKJ 256GB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive. Am I correct that an NVMe connector only has one notch 5 pins from the edge? My understanding is that the older M.2 SATA drives that preceded NVMe had 2 notches? By that assumption according to the order document this one shouldn't be an M-B key then?

Judging from what SSD was shipped with the computer its a M-B key.

I have established that you are correct and this laptop has an M-B slot (2 notches). Can an M (1 notch) still work or does it have to be M-B?

I checked on the Dell website which upgrade parts are available for the Inspiron 5593 and they list a 512GB drive with 2 notches (M-B key) and a 1TB with only 1 notch so it would appear the drive does not have to be M-B key. Would that be correct?

This is a photo of the factory installed NVMe which looks like a 2230 M-B key. There is only one block out for the notches so it looks like a 2280 M key would fit the connector however as it is longer I'm not sure how length wise it would sit in the chasis mount as it has raised legs where the current 2230 size drive ends. The tech specs do say it can take a 2280 1TB NVMe but this chasis does not look like it would accommodate a 2280.Dell Inspiron 5593 NVMe Slot (cropped).jpg

If I want upgrade from 2230 to 2280 I do replace Thermal Shield with dedicated? Where I can find?

A tech from Dell was working on my laptop for another issue and I asked him about the SSD shield and he said the shield didn't matter as it was more protecting the SSD rather than a heat shield as the shield is so thin anyway and the SSD gives off so much heat. I didn't want to risk it and found one online after much searching but it wasn't cheap considering it is just a thin piece of tin.

Hello, can you share me the name of the product or the last link. If you have a part number for it .. it would be great. Thank you.
