Inspiron 7573 - Installing additional SSD (Sata)

Hello,

Another question.

As per specs, this laptop has NVe M.2 SSD.

But when I checked system information,  under Device Manager -> Disk Drives I see the description as '  SK hynix SC311 SATA 512GB' . 

I spoke with Dell tech support,  the person told me that the laptop has Nve M.2 SSD.

I am confused ,  whether this laptop has SATA SSD or Nve M.2?

Can some one throw some light here?

The existing drive is M.2 NVMe.  To add a 2.5" drive, yes - you will need to order a cable and bracket from Dell.  See the service manual for details.

I have a 7573 that I have had for several months. With the 512Gb SSD it is nice, but I need more memory. I've been using 2 256Gb Slim Fit USB Flash Drives for extra memory, but I still want to install an M.2 or even a mSATA SSD. I have the 56Wh battery and there isn't room for a 2.5 inch SSD, but I think there would be room to set a mSATA or 2242 M.2 SSD. I would need a connecting cable long enough to route to the SSD.     I think I could secure with a short screw into the pads for the HDD that was used with the smaller battery before they started using the bigger battery. ANY help would be appreciated on where to find a connecting cable. I would like to install a 1Tb SSD, either 2242 M.2 or mSATA would fit I think and it would be used for storage. 

I hope someone can offer some suggestions, thanks...... 

Any help? Any ideas?? Anything?? Dell techs? Computer experts?? Anybody?? My other post, I think a 2242 M.2 SSD would work, I need the cable to use it where I want.

Sorry but a PM ain't going to do diddle.

They need to purchase the cable and a "NEW" battery that is 184.15 mm (7.25 in)

They have the battery that is 233.37 mm (9.19 in)

You cannot install a HDD in that slot unless you hack an SSD in half and purchase 2 different cables to connect the drive.

hehe I looked at that hack job, and yes.... that is a hack job. I've been looking at mSATA SSD's and M.2 SSD's and the mSATA is a size that would fit in that space. From what I understand is that the mSATA SSD is just a 2.5 inch SSD without the casing, right? They make a 1Tb SSD that would fit this space.  It is slower than the M.2, but it would be sufficient for just storage. I looked at some M.2's and there are different sizes for them. There is a 1Tb 2242 M.2 SSD that is the size that would fit the space. There have been other posts where they bought the smaller battery and then installed a 2.5 inch SSD, but I really want to keep the bigger battery. There are times when I need the battery power. I can work on securing the 2242 M.2 SSD, but there has to be a connecting cable somewhere to use that would fit. 

I really appreciate the time to look up the link, I will look at it again a little more closely.

They have mSATA SSD's that are the size that would fit in the space by the bigger 4 cell battery. I know mSATA is an older type SSD, but it would be used only for storage, not for bootup. I can buy a 1Tb mSATA for around 150$ where an M.2 SSD is up around 260$. The M.2 size would be a 2242 M.2, there is a 1Tb SSD for 260$. 

I want to keep the 4 cell battery and not to change to the 3 cell. The mSATA or the 2243 M.2 SSD should fit in the space to the side of the battery. I just need a cable that will be long enough to get from the pin slot to the drive in that space. 

Any progress on this project?

I haven't. I've asked some computer techs around different shops giving them the photos of my laptop and the storage space available and they haven't come up with the connecting cable yet. In the photos from the link U2CAMEB4ME posted it gives the cable and connectors I think would work. I still think a 1Tb  2242 M.2 SSD or a mSATA would fit. I looked for the cables online, but I don't know many suppliers. I asked some shops if they could find them and I haven't had luck there.

Can someone measure the thickness of the space for the drive???

This one is approximately 2 1/16" x  4" including the Micro SATA to SATA connector???
