Inspiron 7591 SSD upgrade
Hi! Just wanted to ask if it's possible to add an additional ssd to inspiron 7591 . I plan to buy a corsair force nvme mp510 ssd 512gb. Will the RST drivers cause any problem? I.e RAID mode in Bios.

Thanks for the reply! I suppose the second slot should support a nvme ssd. At max maybe I'll have to install windows again. Could you elaborate what you meant by Win10 image. Also since Il have to install ubuntu I'l have to disable Raid anyway!

I recently built a W10 image on a single SSD 7591 system and it went fine.
But I am not sure about a dual drive system???
Best regards,

@Shivam Malhotra
I build W10 images for every model Dell, Hp and Panasonic that comes through my warehouse.
I then upload the image to my server for further deployment.

U2
NOTE: Since you have Ubuntu 18 drivers on your support page that would indicate that you do have the option for AHCI in the BIOS.

@U2CAMEB4ME
Since it is not confirmed about the NVME I'd rather install a 2.5 ssd in it. Does the laptop come with the necessary mounting mechanism? Atleast that would be supported.

To get this information you need to log on to support, enter your model number and most importantly Enter your Service Tag Number.
That will open all the hardware information on your Particular notebook, You should download and read your Service Manual there you will find out how to open your notebook
Your service manual has your answer and how to open it up to look for yourself exactly what you have and don't have.

@Shivam Malhotra
The best way to make sure you have all the hardware would be remove the Base Cover.
Remove 5 screws and loosen 3 captive screws.
Regards,
U2
NOTE: The manual is listed above!!!

I don't really have any mean to open it up myself and I will have to go to a dell service center for that. I found something called "HDD screw mylar " in my config. Is it the same?

I don't know anything about a "HDD screw mylar" however if you're not going to do this job yourself you should just trust whom every you do trust to work on it, The only problem with working with Dell is they all seem to only think that what was originally sold with any model is the only thing that works. Which is not necessarily a fact. It's just as far as their limited knowledge/Training goes or what Dell as a company is willing to back up.
This is the correct screw that all M.2 SSD are set up to use. Most motherboards already have the standoff built-in so all that is needed is the m2x3 screw. I have never used any washer like is shown in this add so I can't comment on that.
I also know for sure that Dell in some notebooks uses proprietary M.2 mounts, Mine in fact has an adapter that can be positioned to use for a 2230 length card or the other direction for a 2280 length card. Stil the screw itself is the same M2x3 screw

Hello, I have the dell Inspiron 7591 15" 2in1 black edition 4k monitor, I wanted to add an additional SSD but it's simply impossible, in the manual it says that you can add one, and when you open the case you do find where to plug an additional disk, but due to the larger battery in the 4k model, you don't have enough room to fix it, so I'm stuck with the 500 GB m2 for now ... and dell technicians don't seem to know a bout this issue.

Yes you can buy a smaller battery, You can replace the 512GB SSD with a up to 2TB m.2 SSD, You would need a external USB to m.2 NVME adapter. Macruim Reflect Free and then clone your current SSD to your new one. If you only have a 512gb SATA 2.5 SSD you can upgrade that to 4TB SATA SSD. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LClr3FPg4_4

I am in the exact same situation.
I bought 7591 and opened up the back.
No hard drive.
However I do see enough space for 2.5 inch HDD (I already have 1TB SSD) that would fit there.
Since I have larger battery the computer did not come with the hard drive SO....
1) There is no bracket. If I want to purchase one which one? (Generic or dell specific).
My current HDD bracket from SSD drive did not line up.
2) Is there already a cable that goes from MB to SATA on HDD?
I didn't see the cable. Looking at service manual for my laptop I can see where the cable should be.
When I opened the back I didn't know where to look so may be the cable is already there.
If NOT which cable to buy? I see some on Newegg but I am not sure.
Thank you,
Robert
PS: New laptop is really good. I bought previous model in 2017 Feb and it died due to hinge problems. This one seems built better.

I would check with Parts People
You're probably going to need the smaller battery, cable, and caddy. If you going to try to just make something work you'll at least need the correct cable since it will have to connect to your Motherboard. you'll probably just stick the SSD in with double back tape to hold it in place

I guess they thought you wouldn't want to upgrade to a Hard Drive since there is no room with the larger battery

Thanks I will find the cable/caddy and see how it goes.
They made it much harder to add HDD, like not providing cable at least.

Were you ever able to find the solution for this problem? I noticed this and spoke to Dell as well. Super p.o'd because I vetted this laptop very carefully and did NOT expect to be stuck with a completely different interior. I only bought this laptop for the integrated stylus. Never even wanted the 4K screen -_- I have been delaying my upgrades for some time and I'd love to hear if you found any solutions?!
