Inspiron N5010, BIOS update failed, issues

I have a Dell Inspiron N5010 laptop. My System is having:

  • Windows 10Pro (64 Bit)
  • 8GB RAM
  • 250 GB SSD
  • 500 GB HDD

My initial problem started with my laptop plugged in, showing battery but not Charging. I followed all relevant Dell Support videos to understand and resolve it till I was suggested to update my BIOS Version which could help Charging my laptop bty.

I was trying to update BIOS Version for battery recognition as per the Authorised Dell Support Videos.

Somehow same did not happen.

Present laptop BIOS Version is A09 & Latest Version A15.

I was advised to upgrade the BIOS stepwise and not jump straight to A15 BIOS Settings, so that the battery charging can be detected.

Few problems faced are:

1. CMOS Battery 5 Beep sound was still coming despite change of new CMOS Battery replaced. On starting the system, the laptop Battery is detected after start shows but not Charging (I was told due to lack of BIOS upgrade).

2. Overheating & Shutting down.

3. Despite full Battery, the system showed Very low battery and shut down during BIOS update, and failed to restart on its own.

4. BIOS A10 couldn't be updated due to above. System shut down twice.

5. During BIOS A11 update started but System restarted with blank screen single beep sound coming in equal intervals.

I am attaching pictures

to this msg.

Please let me know what suppport can be extended.

If you're still seeing the 5-beep CMOS battery error after changing the battery, the clock chip has failed.  This is not replaceable -- the mainboard will need to be replaced.

Whether this is cost-effective for you depends on your own evaluation.  It's a 10-year old notebook that is only worth $50-100 at most in total, complete and working.

You're probably going to pay between $80-150 just for a board replacement, and that's just the part.

On a system of this age, you are likely better off recycling -- and replacing it with a new or newer model system.

  • Same thing happened to me.  This link got my laptop working again.

Dell N5010 - erased BIOS - All is Black

The person talked about downloading the bios file and creating a ROM file etc.  I followed his instructions with success.

This issue might be old, but it could still help those who find it through Google. If you follow the steps in this video, you can fix this problem.

No need to worry I also have the same system and also had the same problem according to dell the bios update will show you a black screen and you just had to leave it for a long time but as you had restarted the system the bios have been bricked you just need to go to a local repair shop and you will have to reprogramme the bios chip at a cheap price and then your system will be working all fine just you need to install the bios version a15 and you don't have to try doing this at home because it might convert this minor problem to major problem.

if this didn't worked then you will have to buy a new motherboard for the system which will be expensive and i will recommend to not fix it because before this problem in my system there was another problem which was no display in which my both display and motherboard were damaged due to sitting idle for 3 years and costed me 150$.

I hope this will help you
