Inspiron power button broken, data retrieval?

I need to send my laptop to Dell to repair the problem. Many people have this power button problem.  Since I cannot power it on, it's NOT possible to remove personal info from the drive before I send it in as suggested. What is your recommendation to protect the personal info?

I would boot into Linux with Linux USB and delete the files that way.

Simply remove and retain the drive yourself.  To fix a faulty power button, they won't require the hard drive.

And if this is your only copy of your data, you're living dangerously - get some type of a backup drive.  There are two types of drive:  those that have failed, and those that will.
