'Invalid File!' message on BIOS Flash Update

For my Dell 15 3585 (AMD Ryzen 5 2500u), I downloaded the latest BIOS from Dell's website and put it on a USB stick. The issue is that when I try to select the file from the BIOS Flash Update, it tells me 'Invalid File!'. I have no idea about why.

I have tried using different USBs, downloading the file again, disabling Intel Virtualization (as suggested in some other posts).. But no luck.

Any help is appreciated.

Welcome to the Dell Community  @gooddude

Have you tried updating from Windows???

Inspiron 3585 and 3785 System BIOS:

https://www.dell.com/support/home/th/en/thbsd1/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=DCG7T&oscode=WT64A&productcode=inspiron-15-3585-laptop

Note 1: Before updating the BIOS, ensure that you suspend BitLocker encryption on a BitLocker-enabled system. If BitLocker is not enabled on your system, you can ignore this step.

Note 2: Do not turn off the power or interrupt the BIOS update process during the update.

Download and Installation:

1. Click Download File, to download the file.

2. Click Save to save the file to your hard drive.

3. Browse to the location where you downloaded the file and double-click the new file.

The system restarts automatically and updates the BIOS at the system startup screen.

After the BIOS update is complete, system restarts again.

Best regards,

U2

I don't have Windows installed. The machine comes with Ubuntu.

@gooddude

Updating the BIOS from BIOS Boot Menu (independent of operating system)

Note 1: Before updating the BIOS, ensure that you suspend BitLocker encryption on a BitLocker-enabled system. If BitLocker is not enabled on your system, you can ignore this step.

Note 2: Do not turn off the power or interrupt the BIOS update process during the update.

Installation

1. Copy the downloaded file to a USB drive. The USB drive does not need to be bootable device.

2. Insert the USB drive into any USB port.

3. Power on the system.

4. At the DELL logo screen, press F12 to access the one-time boot menu.

5. Select BIOS Flash Update in the Other Options section.

6. Click the ... button to browse the USB drive to locate the downloaded file.

7. Select the file and click Ok.

8. Verify the existing system BIOS information and the BIOS update information.

9. Click Begin Flash Update.

10. Review the Warning message and click Yes to proceed with the update.

The system restarts and displays a progress bar at the Dell logo screen. The system restarts again when the update is complete.

Dell is not known for keeping models up to date with 'Good" Drivers. Compared to this units intel siblings, it does not appear to be using a true EFI bios as its not mouse enabled.

It is also out of date, and many drivers are not funcitonal and glitch out.. there is also no supportassist images either.

Did you ever find a solution?  I'm trying to rollback the BIOS after it updated and now my daughter cannot get into her computer because it is asking for a Bitlocker Key she never created.
