Is there a way to remove Amazon Alexa from Windows 11 Pro?

Hi there,

Amazon Alexa came pre-installed on Windows 11 Home. So I upgraded to Windows 11 Pro to give me functionality that would let me fully control the PC.

There doesn’t seem to be a way to uninstall Amazon Alexa from either the Microsoft Windows 11 Store (it’s greyed out). I even went over to Add/Remove programs and it’s also greyed out and doesn’t allow it to be removed.

I tried to give myself access to the Microsoft Store App Data folder that’s hidden, but Microsoft Restricts entry even after assigning myself as the primary owner of the folder. It refuses to give me access as full control, I have read only access.

My plan had been to uninstall Amazon Alexa by simply deleting the files inside the Microsoft Store local folder.

Is there any good software that’ll force an application to uninstall? I’m running on an Administrator account and still can’t figure out how to remove this.

We don’t want Alexa on our corporate machines. I couldn’t find anything in group policy to prohibit Alexa either (which makes sense because it’s an application). I had already completely gutted and removed Cortana save for its basic search module.

If anyone can recommend any software that will completely remove Alexa besides the traditional Add/Remove feature that’s greyed out. Please let me know.

I’m sure other people have this same problem. I just purchased this Inspiron 15” Laptop as a minimal device for coding only. We have Alienware primarily at our company and haven’t had this issue in the past. They all run on the same grou policy. As an Administrator account that bypasses Group Policy.

You can use the instructions below the remove the Amazon Alexa software.

  1. Type uninstall in the Windows search box and select Add or remove programs from the search results.

  2. Select Amazon Alexa and click Uninstall.

  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to uninstall the Amazon Alexa application.

Hey there, yes as I stated above that doesn’t work. The option is greyed out. Dell shipped the laptop with Alexa pre-installed.

Hey Mike, unfortunately that option is greyed out. It shipped that way from Dell. Even going into group policy doesn’t seem to let me get rid of Alexa.
