My G5 is about to explode!!!

please guys help me! dell support team please consider replying!!!

specs

i5 8300 h - 8gb ram- 1060 max q design

my dell g5 15 all of sudden started to throttle all the time! it started 3 days ago I was playing Valorant and the game stuttered I thought it was okay but it happened, again and again, I checked my temp and it was over 90s C all the time till it hits the 100c and then the CPU drops to 0.8???????

I installed xtu and undervolted the CPU to -.150 it did lower the temp but it is still over 85c and it hits the 100c??/?

when I run the benchmark it immediately jumps from 60 to 90 and starts throttling.. what should I do guys... I've read tons of threads yet not a useful answer... and please don't tell me to turn off the turbo boost, because if I did so what is the point of buying a gaming laptop...

I put here what i wrote earlier to similar problems in other thread - I also had the same issues as you.

"I got mine 5587 i5 8300+1060MQ November 2018 - I got issues as everybody, this laptop isn't very good, now I wouldn't buy Dell "gaming series" but you can make is usable. I had Couple of issues:

1. Idiotic fans behaviour - fixed with bios update, not an issue now (Dell Power Menagement, Fans on ULTRA)

2. CPU Thermal Throttling - there are 3 fixes, but one gives you the most. I did UnderVolting -0,400Volt so cpu got a lot less power ( less power=less heat in nut shell), UnderClocking to 3,7GHz (pains me to do so but games run maybe 1-2FPS worse than at 3,9GHz earlier but at least it is solid framerate), repaste - didn't do it laptop is still on warranty. Probably I won't ever do it. It is much more likely I'll sell mine this year.

3. GPU Power Limit Throttling - You need to adjust power curve of gpu in MSI afterburner. I got mine at 1860MHz Core at 0,880Volt - This is max OC and UV I can do, if I go 1861MHz i is limited by power of MAXQ design. Adding more voltage only makes it run hotter but it won't go above 1860MHz. Keep in mind, if you do something similar your card will be diffrent than mine (better :)?) never again MaxQ. I advise you to do the same. You can make your own "maxQ" by lowering voltage.

Try to use HWInfo to check if it got to high temps, maybe try AIDA64 to check if it throttles. Check on YT BobOfAlltrades - very easy guide to make it usable. Remember you are doing it at your own risk, but in my opinion it is very minimal risk."

Few other things:

Watch BobOfAllTrades YT video on keeping thermals of G5/G7 2018 in check.

I had to lower my max turbo on CPU to 3,7GHz to make -0,400VCore UnderVolt to make it run cooler. It still gets "good enough" FPS.

I don't like my Dell G5 5587 but now with all my tweaking I'm like "meh could be worse".

Found this on the same Forum itself. I hope it helps you:

Bios 1.9.0 is the exact optimization we have been waiting so far. After you install Dell Power Manager Service for your G5/G7 you can see the Thermal Management options as below

There are 4 different options to optimize the fans as we like. I am trying for an hour, as I understand they implemented our beloved bios 1.3 fan curve in Ultra Performance Mode In that mode fans react much sooner and you never see the temps spike to unacceptable levels. Cool mode is to prevent surface temperature and the Quiet mode is for the ones who desire no fan noise when using device. I advice you not to use optimized mode because they use bios 1.4 thermal table in that option. As you can see chrome tabs and many other applications are open but temps never past beyond 75C.

Dell finally understand the problem and gave the us many fan curve options to use the device as we wish. I thank you all again for giving feedback to Dell and make that possible. I also thank DELL for this user friendly solution.
