Inspiron 5558, power button not working
Hello,
I own a Dell Inspiron 5558 laptop. The power button on my laptop has been stuck since past 2 weeks. I am pressing the power button as hard as I can, but even then, the switch does not compress. It is like my laptop does not have a power button anymore. This means that I cannot turn on my laptop (after shutting it down) and cannot wake it up (after putting it to sleep). For the past 2 weeks, I have avoided shutting off my laptop or putting it to sleep.
If there is no power, disconnect the power cord, hold the END key, connect the AC adapter & release the end key. Check if it lights up or if you hear the fan spinning. "
I would like to confirm whether I can use the above stated 'END key' related process to turn on the laptop (or whether there is some other way to turn on the laptop without using the power button). I am afraid to try this process because if my laptop does not turn on using the this process, then I will be stuck as I am not able to use the power button to turn it on.
Thanks

Hi,
Thank you for your response. If I try that and it doesn't work, then I'll be stuck with a laptop that doesn't power on. Is there a remedy for this?

Check the system with the adapter only and the battery only and see if it powers on. Check if any of the leds come on atleast for a second or two before it goes off. Is the light on the adapter on when connected to the system? Check if the adapter light is on / flashing / goes off when connected to the system. Check with another adapter if possible.
Remove the RAM modules and check if the system powers on. Remove the HDD cable and ODD and check if it works. Again, see if any leds come on atleast for a second or two.
If there are no lights, then I would suspect the motherboard might have failed and probably requires replacement.
If there is no warranty, we can help setup a paid service call depending on your region.

if you are still keeping the laptop on go to your bios and toggle the power on switch while inserting the charger. This will turn on your laptop every time you plug in your charger and could be a short term replacement for your power key until you get it repaired
If you want more details on how to do it you can contact me.
