Skip installing Support Assist. You don't need it now and it can be installed if you ever do need it. It is more important to see if windows 10 version 2004 works on your model. If you have an older laptop version 2004 might not run on your hardware. You should have mentioned your model computer when asking a question. Check out the windows installation now. You might have made a mistake doing a clean install of version 2004. MS recommends waiting until Windows Update offers it. See info here:
I have the same model computer and I have the same problem. It only started after Windows automatically did the update to version 2004. I went to run support assist and it said it had a updated and the problem started. I have uninstalled and reinstalled many times and each time I get a BSOD and a stop code error.
If someone has a fix let me know, for now I just won't install support assist. Thanks in advance for the help!
I have same issue with a Dell Inspiron 15-3567, Intel i5-7200 CPU @ 2.50GHZ, with 8 GB RAM.
I believe the issue is tied to the new 3.6 version of SupportAssist.
I too automatically updated to Windows 2004 several weeks ago...and Windows itself was running fine. BSoD (PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA) seemed to occur whenever SupportAssist kicked in (in background for scans). In attempting to manually update to version 3.6, I received the same BSoD.
Figuring I needed a 'clean' install, I attempting to uninstall version 3.5...but this too produced the same BSoD (PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA).
Reverted back to a clean System Image copy of Windows 1909 (made in case V2004 didn't work), and computer ran fine. But the first time running SupportAssist, I received the same BSoD. The kicker is it immediately told me there was a new version (3.6) available before it crashed. Was it attempting to install? I'll never know.
Trying to uninstall version 3.5 (still in Windows 1909 environment), I still got the BSoD. Tried to install version 3.6. Same result.
I used Revo Uninstaller to finally remove the SupportAssist that was on my system.
I'll wait for version 3.7 to try and install again.
Basically, you'll need to download the Windows Installer Clean Up Utility, run it, select SupportAssist from the list and uninstall it that way. Once it's finished, reboot and try reinstalling SupportAssist.
Like many others, I have lived through many months of BSODs trying to get SA to install (as well as the issue of the computer thinking it was still installed depending on how you searched for it) and tried various things but did not resort to anything very "intense".
My fairly simple solution which I just implemented today ……
Went to Dell Support page / entered service tag for the affected computer / saw the various updates available to discover the new Dell Update app, downloaded and installed it / Once installed – ran Dell Update to process the necessary updates / after that was done, successfully installed the latest version of Support Assist that I obtained from the Dell website…… hopefully this may work for others.
