Resolution 2560x1080 not available for external monitor LG 29UM59-P
Resolution 2560x1080 not available for external monitor LG 29UM59-P
I have a DELL laptop with i5-1035G1 Processor with no external graphic card. After installing clean Win I installed all recommended drivers from here.
After connecting the LG monitor via HDMI/HDMI cable, I installed the monitor driver from here.
The problem is that the maximum display resolution offered in Display settings is 1920x1080.
The cable cannot be wrong. I can use the same monitor with higher resolutions from my PC.
Any suggestions what to do are welcome.

@cyperjbl This is a known issue with certain Dell systems. The system is working as designed. The HDMI connector on the motherboard used in these Inspiron and Vostro systems can't output a resolution higher than 1920x1080. This is the motherboard working to the limits of its design.

It's Inspiron 5593. Indeed I forgot to specify the exact model, even if the driver page I linked shows the model number.
Who could confirm if the HDMI is limited to 1080p on this model? I'm dashing back to the shop then

@tlorincz there are some recent Dell laptops that are limited to 1080p on their HDMI input, even though those laptops were specifically advertised as HDMI 1.4. I believe those are the Inspiron systems with xx93 model numbers. Unfortunately you didn't specify what laptop model you're working with; you just specified the CPU your system has. Fyi when asking about technical issues like this, it helps to provide that kind of technical information.
If you have that kind of system, then if your laptop also has a USB-C port that supports video output (not all systems with USB-C ports support video output through them), you could use a USB-C to HDMI adapter/cable. Otherwise, if your system's HDMI output is limited to 1080p, then unfortunately you would be stuck.

@tlorincz I saw threads reporting this issue involving the Inspiron 3493 and 3593, both with multiple users confirming this behavior. I then reached out to an official Dell Support rep who has been helpful getting issues like this escalated internally. He did so and then replied back to me saying that he had found internal documentation indicating that all of the following systems had this 1080p limitation on their HDMI outputs:
Inspiron 3493
Inspiron 3593
Inspiron 3793
Inspiron 5493
Inspiron 5593
Like I said, the Inspiron xx93 systems. I specifically asked what the underlying cause of this problem was, and he said he'd been told that Dell had decided not to share that information, but that he would be working on getting some sort of official Dell Support article published about this issue. To my knowledge, that hasn't happened. And of course the issue with an unknown cause persists.
I was quite disappointed with issue on multiple levels, and I made that known in the threads where I first saw this issue reported -- linked below, if you're curious:
Inspiron 3493 thread: https://www.dell.com/community/Inspiron/Dell-Inspiron-3493-Won-t-Output-4k-to-External-Monitor/td-p/...
Inspiron 3593 thread: https://www.dell.com/community/Inspiron/Dell-3593-with-nvidia-mx230-4k-not-working/m-p/7434121/
So yes, I would recommend returning the system if you still can.

Guys, don't you know by any chance if model Dell Inspiron 15 5584 (5584FI5UC2) with nVidia GeForce MX130 2GB supports resolution 2560x1080 over the available HDMI 1.4b port? It looks like I could switch my current laptop to this model.
I read on some pages that HDMI 1.4b doesn't support 21:9 aspect ratio therefore it won't work. However, I also found discussions about the opposite.
Dell provided the following specification for the above model: https://dell.to/2xhUgfy
They didn't come back to me on the same question.
Thanks

@tlorincz HDMI 1.4b definitely has the bandwidth to run 2560x1080 -- when it's not hampered by an upstream limitation as it apparently is in the systems mentioned above, anyway. I would check the documentation of a 21:9 display you find that has an HDMI input. If there's a limitation built into HDMI 1.4 that would prevent the display from receiving a 21:9 signal over its HDMI input, I would expect that to be called out pretty clearly in its documentation. If you don't find that, then while I haven't confirmed this myself via testing, I would say it's a safe bet that you'd be able to run 2560x1080 over HDMI 1.4b.

from Dell Tech support .... After our call ended, I came across this article that states this system's maximum output via HDMI is 1920 x 1080, which is working by design:
Inspiron 5593: Resolution on external monitor limited to 1920 x 1080 using HDMI

@Willy H Nice to see that Dell finally posted a KB article about this, although in reality this issue affects all Inspiron xx93 systems, not just the 5593. See my post earlier in this thread. And I personally find it unconscionable that Dell didn't actually explain the underlying cause in that article. It's bad enough that Dell released a line of systems in 2019 that can only output 1080p over HDMI, and worse that they did that even while posting specs that specifically called out an HDMI 1.4b port, which should be able to handle 1440p 60 Hz and 4K 30 Hz. And now that they've FINALLY acknowledged the issue, they provide no meaningful explanation and don't even acknowledge the full scale of the problem because they only name one affected system.

I think Dell is locking the ability to connect to other branded monitors which is illegal. But, if I connect a 5593 laptop to a Dell 3440x1440 monitor, it works. If I connect another brand at the same resolution, it doesn't work. Riddle me that...
I haven't been able to get a 2560x1080 to work either. I haven't tested a Dell on that though. I tested 4k, HD, etc. nothing works except the Dell U3415W.
Really shady.

@Cate Bloom Before alleging shady practices and claiming they would be illegal even if true (are you a lawyer?), can you maybe provide a bit more information than saying something "works" or "doesn't work"? If you're able to get an Inspiron 5593 to output 3440x1440 via its HDMI output, then this is the first report I've seen of anybody getting ANY Inspiron xx93 system to output anything more than 1080p on any display or TV -- and there have been a lot of reports about the xx93 systems being stuck at 1080p from a lot of users who have tested multiple displays and TVs. And apart from those systems, I haven't seen any evidence anywhere of Dell locking out certain resolutions with non-Dell displays -- and I've been working in various IT roles for over 15 years, mostly in Dell shops, so my sample size is rather larger than most.
But just for informational purposes, can you connect that display to your Inspiron 5593, then go to Windows Display Settings, select that display, then scroll down and click "Advanced display settings" and post a screenshot of that readout?

works on a philips monitor but does not in two same resolution hp and lg monitors. looks like it fails in detecting monitor capabilities and so it is reduced to 1080p.
I´m connecting through hdmi.
you can also use a display link to connect to those other monitors via usb.

Good evening, I have the same problem my dell inspiron 5593 laptop does not output 2560x1080 resolution on my ultrawide monitor. I would like to know if there is any solution to that problem either with an additional adapter or driver?

That's clear. What I want to know is if there is an external adapter for the laptop to force the resolution 2560x1080?

Hello,
I am having the same issues with an LG 29WL500-B IPS LED Monitor.
I have a DELL Latitude E5570, which I use with E Docking station.
I have Tried updating Intel and AMD Drivers (I have an AMD Radeon R7 M370 Graphics card), installing LG drivers, but nothing helped, can't get the 2560x1080 Resolution. Not from the HDMI, ot the Docking station's DVI or Display Port.
Also, I cannot get the Laptop to use AMD as default Gpraphics Card, it uses the Intel 530.
Should I keep trying, or is it a known issue for Latitude models as well?
Thank you for your answer!
