@Brims They sell small SSDs because SSD storage is more expensive than the same amount of mechanical storage, and because apparently there’s a market for small SSDs, otherwise Dell wouldn’t be selling them. Some systems can be ordered with a small SSD and a larger spinning drive installed together. Other systems are marketed at entry level customers where every dollar matters because those customers are highly price-sensitive and profit margins are razor thin. Storage and memory have always been a lot cheaper to buy at retail than as part of a system, so your finding there isn’t surprising. People who can do their own swaps and are fine not having those components covered by the system warranty have always been able to save money by going that route.
But if you want a larger SSD, then either buy one separately or order one with your system. Dell certainly ALSO sells larger SSDs especially in their premium systems like the XPS models. If Dell doesn’t offer that in the specific model you want, then I’m not sure what to tell you.
Thanks for the info. When I upgrade to a new Inspiron I will just buy a small SSD & install a larger SSD from Amazon. I have a spare copy of Windows 10. That or I could boot the smaller SDD up and clone it to the new larger SD with that version of Windows 10.
